Dunno! What I do know is the sheds and ebay are full of sets of these type of drills that are so poorly made they are only good for rough work and ofter tear the wood and throw up burrs etc.
Wealden, Veritas, Colt, Fisch etc are worlds apart and a joy to use.

I have just checked my invoice to see what the veritas ones were called, it says brad point, I would say lip and spur, but hey-ho they do a perfect Job.
As Bob says the better brands are a world apart from the shed drill bits, my every day drill bits are dewalt extreme 2, they have a pointy tip on them and I find them very good, they can be a bit snatchy if you start out at full speed with your drill, slow and steady and they're great, I'm lucky enough that the cost is always passed on to my Clients, I have a reasonable consumables budget in every job too allow for quality stuff.
I tend to be a bit OCD with most of my gear, my labourer doesn't get it when I ask him to wrap masking tape around he tops of my auger bits before they're put away, he often looks at me as if I'm mad.
