Looking at some detail on Georgian doors, some have a stepped ovolo. So I started looking for spindle cutters to suit but soon came to the conclusion that the term 'ovolo' means different things to different companies. Even Wikipedia confuses things by stating that the ovolo is egg-shaped but that woodworkers call it a quarter-round!
This to my eye is a proper ovolo
and here is what Wealden call an ovolo
which to my mind, since it refers to a radius, is just plain wrong. It's a quarter-round bead!
Also came across this craftsman who is showing you how to make a proper ovolo by hand.
