Went over to see my mate (I do have a few ) Andy Pickard yesterday near Trowbridge who introduced me to the delights of thread chasing Apparently it's a bit like riding a bike, so once the 'trick' has been learnt, it then becomes dead easy; hopefully He's been making a few boxes recently in African Blackwood with a turned thread for the lid and the process intrigued me, so I wanted to learn how to do it.
The 'male' thread is relatively easy but it's the internal 'female' thread that's hard as you need an extra tool rest to support the cutter.
The cost of these chasers at Ax and elsewhere is eyewatering (around £74) but he let me have a couple of 11tpi unhandled cutters at 'mate's rates', just need to get hold of one of these thingies now - Rob
