Small sapele machinist type toolbox.

This is where we don't want anything but evidence of your finest wood butchering in all its glorious, and photograph laden glory. Bring your finished products or WIP's, we love them all, so long as there's pictures, and plenty of 'em!

Small sapele machinist type toolbox.

I wanted something to fit on the shelf, to bring order to the actual pile of files, pliers, screwdrivers and assorted bits that were loosely dumped there.

Made over a couple of weekends using timber I still had from the science desk stretchers I rescued from the skip 2 years ago. Even made the draw pulls myself :)

That's a useful tool chest all the nicer as you made it and the Timber was recycled.

That's really nice, Steve. Too nice for a workshop! Did you turn up the handles from a solid lump of brass, or did you convert something else into a handle?

They were turned from solid bar - but they were the scrap ends (about 40mm long) destined for the skip. Bit awkward to hold!

Very nice job. I have a similar (except very worn and knocked about pine) box for small hand tools. Very useful. Yours is 10 times smarter than mine.
Don't like: wood, engines, electrickery, decorating, tiling, laying stone, plumbing, gardening or any kind of DIY. Not wild about spiders either.

Wow that is stunning, I’d rather have that in my house than workshop!

Too nice for files, should be scientific instruments at the least.
How did you make the frame corner joints?

Also curious about the corner joints. Those contrasting plugs are a nice touch.
I do not think therefore I do not am.

Thanks for the kind words folks :)

Construction is a bit unconventional. It's frame and panel, with the end frames made first, and they are dowelled together (the dark plugs).

The end frames were fitted to the long pieces with glue and thin screws - drilled through the dowels - which were then plugged.

I know it's no where near as strong as traditional tenons, but its quick, easy and simple.
