The problem with carving is......

This is where we don't want anything but evidence of your finest wood butchering in all its glorious, and photograph laden glory. Bring your finished products or WIP's, we love them all, so long as there's pictures, and plenty of 'em!

The problem with carving is......

Postby Lons » 16 May 2021, 22:40

........ I run out of motivation to finish them as my box full of part finished carvings prove and how do you know when the damn things are actually finished? :? It's not like a bit of furniture where it's obvious as in my case I can't look at any of my carvings without wanting to grab a gouge and take off just a little bit more.

Anyway have been intermittently progressing a couple of mine over the last few weeks to the stage where this old timer isn't getting any more of his bits chopped off, had an initial coat of wax which will be re-aplied numerous times to a final finish and that's it at least until my missus manages to damage him.

Material is boxwood, the pipe was carved separately and it stands approx 230mm high.

I modelled him on you Bob ;)
The pipe would have been a lot easier to carve had it been 9" long rather than 9mm

Old gunslinger motto, 2 guns are for show, one gun is for go.
Or, if you can remember the original magnificent 7... "beware the man with one gun, he probably knows how to use it" :o
And I havent had a mustache since 1974. :eusa-naughty:

But seeing as how I cant carve a tent peg with a template in front of me... :eusa-clap: :eusa-clap: :eusa-clap:

Love it! Full of pathos and character. My father was quite a reasonable artist, and he had a sign above his easel - "Resist the urge to fiddle".

Hey up Bob,

I sometimes have a quick browse on 'ere as a guest to keep up to date with stuff and I stumbled across your carving, so I had to sign in and make a comment.

Love it mate!

Absolutely brilliant!

Raw talent!

You could sell lots of these. Create a family. I can see these going all over the world.

Superb!

I want one!

Right, I've said me bit. I'll sign out now.

Fabulous!

Just out of interest, if you were to sell this wonderful character, how much?

Top Banana!

Thanks Paul
All that gushing praise is not deserved but much appreciated anyway. I wouldn't have a clue as to value but it's academic anyway as I wouldn't sell any of my carvings, The kids might after I've departed this mortal world though. There are true talents out there who leave me in awe of their imagination and skill, all I can do is keep trying and learning.

Now you've signed in, hopefully you'll keep visiting and maybe contribute, it's a nice place over here with some genuine guys.

Bloody Hell, Bob. You've been hiding your light under a bushel.

That''s superb..nothing left to do. It's perfect. Only one minor defect. In picture 3...you're missing a urinal

I've been privileged to see inside Bob's 'boxa bits' what he's carved Paul, and I can tell you his talent isn't limited to 'character' pieces.
