It’s getting closer

Hang up your Chisels and Plane blades and take a load off with a recently turned goblet of your favourite poison, in the lounge of our Gentlemen's (and ladies) Club.

Our son bought one for us at the start of the Pandemic as well. Haven't needed it so far either thankfully!

Ordered some reusable FFP3 masks for wearing if I have to go to to sites etc. I think these are going to be in high demand soon.

92 % is the danger cut off. Below that and you need help. Question, now the Uk is no longer in the EU, do you go back to 999, or do you stick with 112?
My daughter in law has now been diagnosed positive, although she not in the worst risk category, its still worrying as she is at home with only her 10 year old daughter. Her husband is working away and is reluctant to go home unless it becomes an emergency.

Pulse oximeters are useful...provided you get a reputable make. We bought 'class sets' to work with the early secondary year groups. To save cash, we bypassed Griffin and George and similar established education suppliers. We got 2 dozen plastic lumps that would have been more efficient as paper weights, provided you left all 24 in the same box.
Second time around, homework done, our Bursar was allegedly sticking pins in wax images, but we got repeatable, believeable results. Ergo, these jobbies CAN be a useful diagnostic aide, but you utterly need to be 'canny' in shopping for one. Giving yourself a scare - like Norbert in 3E2 did.- with a ripoff trash item telling you your oxygen levels are comparable with the summit of Everest, is not a good idea.

SWIMBO bought a 'Kinetik' from Boots which I assume is going to be a reasonable one, also in association with St. John Ambulance which also looks good. It's also made in the UK, surprisingly - Rob

Edit - it's not made in the UK but China; doesn't appear to be cCc

Might be placebo effect for me, but I’ve taken D for the last 2 winters, or rather from when the clocks go back. I’m certain it’s made a difference to my mood and subsequent general demeanour.

My brother (an optician) and niece (a care worker) both got their vaccines last week, and my parents have the date for theirs too. This is very good news.

Hah....knew all about those little gems and bought ours in February 2020 ! Also a proper job...not one of those cheap Chinese c**p ones for £20.

Anyway..catching up but here's the thing.

I am so hacked off with tonights news…

You see, I'm miffed. Truly, truly miffed. Sicker than that parrot. Why ? Well, first they give some of our ICU beds away...never mind the practicality of taking a patient in ICU all the way from London to Newcastle. At least they've knocked that on the head.

But now they're cutting back our vaccine supply by 50 % ! Because we're too good at vaccinating...67% in the North East and Yorkshire compared to 50% in some areas down South.

OK...two possible explanations. The first is acceptable. We were given more than our fair share of vaccines to start with. If that's the case then fair enough. Understand. End of conversation.

The second is that we're just better at it. Better organisation up here, the receiving population, demographics and ethnicity might come into it, more anti-vaxers down South, people up here take it more seriously ? Whatever. Not relevant. Not our fault. So WTF penalise us. What good is sending a load of our vaccines down South ? What effing good is it going to do ? If they can't organise a * in a brewery or the BAME or anti-vaxxers think they are going to be injected by a Bill Gates micro-chip…that is not my bloody concern. Or anyone else's up here in the North East.

Reckon my jab is now ….oooh.. April ? 2022 ?

Same here. Apart from BP meds, a vitamin D tab is the only thing we take in the winter, usually from when the clocks change in Autumn to sometime in early Spring when we get out and do the garden - Rob

I'm still seething with white-hot fury after reading this article even more so because the bastard had already been given a £1000 fine previously.
Really like to go down with a couple of mates, who have both lost relatives to Covid, and give the bastard a double orchidectomy without anaesthetic.

£1,000 fine obviously not enough. Make it £10k this time, and if he does it again, 6 months prison. And £200 fines for each of the 200 "guests". It amazes me that those responsible for the letting of that school hall for a wedding attended by 400 are getting away with it. Whilst the actual letting was handled by a 3rd party, the head teacher should still be culpable, and why only 5 people were fined I really cannot understand.

And whilst we are at it, I'd fine some of those who spread false news on Covid. Apparently the "empty hospital" that was filmed to prove it was a hoax was the "Out Patients Physiotherapy Dept" at 0800 on a Sunday morning!

and here is how we will screw it up as promised.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-55805903

remember that it's bojo in charge, so you can expect a knee jerk reaction to this, then a media storm about how it's the EU at fault and it couldn't possibly be because some selfish tit in the big house in Nodnol went and made promises that his * couldn't stretch to.

anyways, rant averted for the day, I've got some nice brown wood drying out next to me and I'm about to get the moisture meter out to see how it's doing. on top of that, from an inital planing it appears to have a slight figuring to it, shame it's only 25mm thick, I'll need to back it with something to get 45mm and that won't be as pretty.

I also blame the police for their softly-softly approach. That argument might have held sway at the outset of the pandemic but not any more.

This isn’t quite as it’s being portrayed. I was discussing this yesterday with a mate who’s wife works for AZ and is quite senior on the team dealing with the vaccine. She said it was going to hit the fan today, here’s the inside take...

“It’s just posturing from them. Inside story.... they’ve massively f’d up with their procurement process and were told there would be issues with supply. And they’ve not even passed the AZ vaccine to be used yet.

The EU have also funded ‘all’ the vaccine developments so they’ve actually given AZ and Pfizer money up front.

The issue is still they are back of the queue due to their delayed process which started last summer when they persuaded all members to allow a joint approach. So any manufacturing delays will impact them the greatest.

But as for us not a single delay as we approved both of first.

It’s the one thing they’ve actually got spot on. Huge gamble at first in buying loads of it. “

I wasn't pointing the finger at AZ and I agree that for once we did the right thing in terms of approval of vaccine, what I'm worried about is a daft knee jerk response to the issue by our government that screws us all up.

No I know YOU weren’t, I meant the content of the article and the EU response. Diversion from their own cock up...

And yeah, it will be interesting to see the response. Wouldn’t it be refreshing for a change if we just told the truth and said “this is what’s happened, why don’t you (the EU) hold your hands up rather than play a blame game?” Then leave it at that.

oh the article is crap, but it was the first one I found that didn't have an erroneous amount of opinion based guff in it (makes a change for the beeb I guess).

As is usually the case, there will be two sides to the story and the victor will write the history.

Indeed Roger. That's the thing that's slightly worrying me; end of the jour, I don't mind what jab I get as long as I get two within the prescribed time frame. So lets say, somebody gets the Pfizer jab next week and three weeks later (or whatever) supplies might have gone TU for the second jab. What happens then? - Rob

No, that's not what Rob was saying. He was saying that you get your first jab, scheduled day set for the second but then come that day, no second jab due to low supplies.
