65 quids worth of timber?

Hang up your Chisels and Plane blades and take a load off with a recently turned goblet of your favourite poison, in the lounge of our Gentlemen's (and ladies) Club.

65 quids worth of timber?

Just got my boards back from the sawmill.

Cut to 3" slabs. All at least 2m long. Most of it is douglas fir. The one on top closest to the camera is Black Pine.

Worth the money? I dunno. But I can't burn it and it will get used in the garden.
I do not think therefore I do not am.

cheers

Worth the money? That looks like £400 or £500 worth of wood to me, at the least, if you were to go out and buy it. I might have had it slabbed up a bit narrower than that, though. Have you got something chunky in mind for it?

It will be interesting to see what is left after I have squared off the edges and avoided the worst of the knots.

I did wonder about the thickness but reasoned that by keeping it as thick would give be more options when I come to use it.

We want to build a raised bed in the garden for my daughter to be able to use while standing up which means at least 2 or 3 feet high. Design not sorted yet but could be simple halving joints at each corner. At a planned 2m x 1m by x 1m high I think 3” thicks sides might be needed to keep all the soil in. The top board i could leave waney edge.
I do not think therefore I do not am.

Are you planning on covering them from the elements ?

Nope. The quality of the timber is not great. The trees were not mature and the wood is very knotty. I intend to use it mainly outside in the garden and probably before it is anywhere near “dry”.
