Mine is also unoriginal since S starts my surname. I did get more adventurous on woodworkuk where I am 'thatsnotafestool' usually abbreviated to TNAF when others are being polite. I'm even more adventurous on another music forum where I have had a number of usernames such as 'BetweenTheStaves' and 'Resurrection Man'.....'cos I like Mahler 2.

combined cadet force, i.e. ATC, ACF and SC.

Sorry, no. A.C.F is Army Cadet Force, S.C is Sea Cadets. A.T.C. (or O.T.C.?) is university level. All are separate bodies, separate funding (BIG prickly issue!)

ATC = Air Training Corps, and sponsored by the RAF. It is a separate organisation, normally outside of school.

OTC = Officer Training Corps, and is usually attached to a university.and Army based.

There is an RAF equivalent which is the UAS = University Air Squadron. In the early 1970s I was a member of ULAS = University of London Air Squadron.

CCF = Combined Cadet Force, usually attached to a secondary school, and with an Army, Navy and Air Force section, but all are part of the CCF.

I use various monikers on forums but when I started looking at woodworking forums everyone seemed really sensible and mature so I stuck with using my name.

Clearly I've nothing much to add to this thread, but I will enter a plea for all those who can bear it to please put your real first name in your details over <<<< there. There are so many new people over here now as UKW continues its descent, and it's hard to remember everyone's real name.

The worry is that i do still answer to novocaine in real life (note the lack of TLA). Its been my internet name for so long that it's become a thing out their in society too.

More than one forum has the name been used.

My member name is Gill because that's my name. Not much danger of confusion with anyone else on this forum! (Although I do believe there's a different scroller who goes by the same moniker on another woodworking forum).

Don't be daft.:D Just warning you that for some, demarcation lines (and funding!) are a great bone of contention. In my experience, the more military you are inclined, the more important it is to use the correct acronym!

On the subject of names...teenage nicknames for teaching Staff are interesting.
I was always "Big..." as I am 6', 200lbs, yada, yada. A female colleague, slim, no contours to speak of, was known as "Treasure ". The mystery raged for some time until a talkative Sixth Former said " Aw, c'mon, Sir!! 32B cup? Equals 'buried chest'?...Treasure?".... :o
