Laptop camera not working

Postby Mike G » 15 Jan 2021, 21:06

My wife has a new laptop, and the camera has just stopped working. Are there any diagnostics I can run through before we return it to the shop? for their help? It's W10, obviously.

Type camera in the search box and you can fiddle with the settings but apart from that, I'd be using google but you don't like doing that....

Yes, that's what I'm saying. I've tried all those and it still isn't working.

Update the drivers, press the windows key and type updates then after its done all the updated click the view optional updates and select all of them, you might need to run them a few times its surprising how many it will find.

Mike some laptops now have a camera kill switch sometimes on the side. Not always next to the camera.

Genius! It's tiny, damn near invisible, and it was closed. Huge thanks. Problem solved.

I tried to join a Zoom meeting on Monday and nobody could hear me. I fiddled, I played about. I logged out and logged back in again.

Then I switched the microphone on.

I like to think I took the (somewhat justified) ribbing in good part.

I'd never be so crude as to give Mike a good ribbing for it.

I told my wife this as I happen to think women screw stuff up deliberately just to test us.

  Ooh no. No, no, no. No sirree. No. Never. No, no, no.

Go on, I deserve it. In my defence, my glasses are out in the workshop, and honestly, the sliding cover mechanism is all but invisible even when you know such a thing exists. And I didn't.

You can get spare reading glasses for a quid in the Poundshops Mike, half a dozen spread around the house, no excuses then. ;) :D

Of course these things don't come with manuals anymore do they?

I am not sure which is most likely to happen.
A woman reading a manual
A woman reading an electronic manual
Hell freezing over
:) :) :)
We need a tongue in cheek and a run for cover smiley.

My missus is no different by the way. “These things should should just work. We should I need to read anything?”
I do not think therefore I do not am.

:D Absolutely Andy, I would ask the question though, how many of us on here actually read the manual before using something new? I certainly don't unless it's complex or unusual. Some of the manuals are just strange little line drawings and badly translated comments anyway.

I've had my current car for 3 years past November, have I read the manual? of course I haven't :eusa-whistle: there are a few markers stuck in where I've had to look something up though. Just looking at it fills me with dread it's about an inch thick.

PS I keep a hard hat by the door in case I make a less than advisable comment, she's hard of hearing so I get away with most.

Guilty as charged Bob,
I had my VW caddy for 18 months before I realised it had Bluetooth
Mind you the missus still doesn't know how to use it, 7 years in now.

I chucked 2 bits of polysterene packaging out from the new dishwasher.

Turns out they are part k and i and needed for noise reduction. Not that the manual made any fecking sense nor explained that beyoubd insert part k here and i there. Even if id read the bloody instructions (inside the dishwasher) id still had no idea. So yes i do look at the destructions, but they never makes no senses.
