Seventeen Minutes in the Company of Genius

Have a go at this:

There's a lot of it that is difficult (nigh on impossible?) to grasp but what I think is fascinating is the way in which a man who does grasp it carries out his reasoning process. I suppose this is why I didn't do well at physics in school.

I enjoyed that. Can't wrap my tiny brain around the detail but I love listening to people who understand it and can translate it into English (more or less). I like Brian Cox for that side of things.

a quantum state remains in superposition until the difference of space-time curvature attains a significant level. Penrose theory.

one of the very few quantum theories that I can recite but can also, categorically state that I have not now nor ever understood. :)
I do have a very good friend on the other hand, that can and does understand it. He considers Smiley Smiley to be a hack with a pretty face and an understanding of the media industry. mainly because he was a lecturer at Manchester Uni, doing his time to keep his status and didn't really know more than what was presented to him. what he does well is get people interested, and that is pretty much his goal so that's something.

I did go to a lecture from Penrose a while back, I understood about every other word.

sorry, dept. nickname for him apparently, the legend that is Prof Cox.
Manchester is a small world, he was doing his degree at the same time as a colleague as well, his opinion is pretty similar.
I think he's good at what he does, but then, I'm not a physicist, I'm the poor sap who designs and builds the apparatus instead.

funny, you never hear about a mad engineer, just a mad scientist.

It has taken me a long to realise that it is not the subject that is boring but the way it is presented. That can be any subject. Some presenters can hold my attention on subjects I would not other wise have given a second glance.
I do not think therefore I do not am.

cheers

So ive apent a bit of time with this now.
Nut shell time. We have to elimate one constant in order for our theory of the big bang and what came before and what will happen after to make sense.

* entropy, everything is dispersing to an ordered ,distributed form which is the most random state we reach.

Everything is dispersing to a *disordered, distributed form. Entropy is a measure of disorder, and always increases.
