Pictures from an old WIP - Dining Table

Postby Robert » 12 Apr 2015, 16:35

One of a few threads long lost on WH1.

These are the pictures taken during my dining table build back in 2011. It is a large extending table that seats 6 or 8 when extended. A section folds out of the centre to extend.

I'm struggling over photos 7 to 11.

Scaling off the drill chuck, the forstner bit looks to be about an inch diameter. making the router out pockets quite large. Then there are several such pockets close together in photo 8.

Confused!

The table needs to be moved across the room now and again. the pockets and the hollow legs were all about keeping the weight down. The solid looking edges to the top panels are around 6mm thick over the pockets.

i know it must be lighter than solid but the table is still heavy! :)

Ah! I see now. I've seen you do the hollow leg trick before and thought it might be more about getting similar grain on all four sides rather than weight.

Cheers

I'd guess at spraying the legs and maybe more. Plus point plenty of space but knowing my luck some bug or other would land on the still wet surface.

Yes spraying the frame. Bugs do land but if you keep checking you can get them off while its wet with toothpick sized bits of wood and leave virtually no mark.
