• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Fitting a back-to-wall WC with an offset fitting.

I’ve been to a couple of jobs in bungalows where Roland has nibbled through the pan connector, the last one the lady said she’d got an awful smell in the bathroom, on taking out some boxing it was obvious to me a rat had chewed through the top of the connector. The customer just wouldn’t accept...

    What I have fixed today

Yes definitely quicker ways than a grinder for shaping tool steel but ideal for my bench tools

    What I have fixed today

25 years & it decided it had had enough 😵‍💫 A couple of hours later including a trip to the electrical wholesaler’s & I was back in business with a freshly dressed wheel.

Fitting a back-to-wall WC with an offset fitting.

To be honest Roger as long as it’s an upstairs bathroom & from looking at your photos in your position I’d opt for a brand named concertina one, they work fine & will give less of an abrupt restriction than the offset connector in your photo. The advantage being you can connect the toilet up &...

New vs Old Machines + Optimum Drill Press

The main problem I had was with one of their supposed industrial machines, bought new over time I needed spares which they could get but it was an 18 week wait, not much use when you’re running a business. Also over the last 10 years + with their move to sourcing machinery from China the...

I have no experience of it but if you like the Bosch pillar drill mentioned above someone is selling one on UKWorkshop https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/threads/bosch-pbd-40-bench-drill.156665/

New vs Old Machines + Optimum Drill Press

Personally with the experiences I’ve had with Axminster & running my business they would be the last company I’d deal with.

New vs Old Machines + Optimum Drill Press

A quick google suggests Technology Supplies have them manufactured in China. The apparent new price is eye watering but that probably has more to do with who’s paying for it than a reflection of its quality. I’d want to see it in the flesh before parting with £600.

VFD to run 3-Phase on Single phase supply

I’ve had a couple of inverters over the last 20 years the first was on an old Wadkin planer, I couldn’t re-wire the motor to Delta & found the cheaper option was to put another 3 phase motor on it that could be wire in delta & wired that through a VFD. The second was on my Meddings pillar...

New vs Old Machines + Optimum Drill Press

If I was setting up again I’d definitely have a good look at OAV, back in the day when Axminster sold decent machines OAV made them for Axminster, they manufacture in Taiwan & have been doing so since 1980. I had a bandsaw & an extractor made by OAV & found the quality to be good, Markfield...

    Mmm some treats for today.

Got to admit West Nipissing made me chuckle so much so I had to google it just to find out more about the place

    Barrel trimmer

Rotur are a good brand for a mandrel Beaufort Ink are selling a morse taper 1 mandrel with hollow centre for a decent price, I’d always recommend a hollow centre as it prevents the mandrel from being bent when under pressure leading to discrepancies when assembling the pen. There are a couple of...
