• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Getting to the 'Cross-roads' - no speed limits!

Hi folks. I have finally realised it is time to pull in my horns, and grasp the nettle! Sorry for the mixed grammar! It's time to dust off my hand tools; although it's been apparent for some years! At 83, I can no longer wrestle 12 x 2 planks across a planer, or through a bandsaw. i will...

I have been away some time

Hi folks, I am just starting to find my feet again after a struggle with health. So I am back at the bench, albeit on a stool. My tools are stil shiny though, thanks to a south facing, metal door that keeps the shop bone dry. I just found a Record 71 Router plane too. Does anyone know if the...

I am not a metal worker but...

I have lost my marking knife, which was an old, chip carving knife, pressed into service. I fancy making a new one, similar to the type I used when I first took up woodwork in 1950; at school of course. They had a handle that was much like a shoemaker's knife, with the short blade that was...

    A Personal Christmas memory

It's the Season to be merry of course and for some unknown reason, the other day a memory from the 1950s rose up, and I had to smile. For Christmas in 1949 my Dad bought me a Chromatic Harmonica. I wanted one of those of course, but what I really desired was a Record five and a half. You see...

Any advice for working sitting down please?

I wonder is it possible to plane while seated.... I am shrivelling up with inactivity after another spell of Cellulitis. Just got back on my feet, yet again. This evening I came across a chap on the 'Tube, called 'Mark - The Gentleman Turner'. Listening to what he has just gone through, I...

Moved over to here from we know where.

Loghead here. Have been here for some considerable time, but my Lady's illness about eight years ago caused a major blip in my MoJo. Not quite happy in the other place, so maybe it's time I concentrated on Woodhaven, and my other 'family'. Still appearing there, but growing weary. Maybe time to...

    Having been absent so long!

Hi friends I have been away from the woodwork scene for quite a long time. For starters Ano Domini (Is that the right spelling?) is catching up with me, and for another my Lady wife has been in full-time care now for almost 12 months. This is taking time from my daily existence. At present I...

    Improving a stock-bought 10 x 6 shed.

Hi Folks. I am in sore need of extra space for some of the 'clutter' in my workshop. I have space in my rear yard for a 10 x 6 shed. I could build one from scratch, (A very attractive idea) but it would take me so long, that I doubt I would have it up and running before next Spring, if then...
