• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Tiny Workshop Shed meets Ambitious Upgrade Project

Nothing wrong with pedantry but actually the installation does meet the regulations insofar as the junction boxes are accessible and the cables are secured on either side: UK Regulations (BS 7671 / IET) • Standard Screw-Terminal Junction Boxes: Under Regulation 526.3, every electrical...

Tiny Workshop Shed meets Ambitious Upgrade Project

I agree. Makes sense to use a cheaper solution. The Wago connection boxes have cable grips and are maintenance free which is necessary when you can’t see them or get at them easily, eg under floorboards, but that isn’t the case here.

    Smart meter

Didn’t know that. Every day a school day.

    Smart meter

I’m not sure that a smart meter contains a circuit breaker to enable it to do that.

    Nervous about Surgeon

I have recurrent uveitis. Every time I have a flare up I go to Eye Casualty in the RVI in Newcastle. They too are first rate.

    I'm not OTT.

I also rotate the wheels every 6k miles to even out tyre wear. Replacing all 4 tyres at the same time can very often get you money off deals.

    Locating studs in the wall

I’ve used this method with neodymium magnets suspended on a thin length of cotton. It works well even on my Victorian lath and plaster walls with inch thick plaster.

    Car recovery companies

That’s good to hear. I’ve just moved to Autoaid on the recommendation of Martin Lewis. Not had to use them yet but very good price.

    DSLR issue

Bob - I can second the suggestion of MPB, I’ve bought and sold several cameras from them over the past few years and they are very good. I’d stay away from places such as WEX and LCE as they are rather more expensive for second hand gear. I’ve had a quick look at their current stock and they...

    care homes

So are we talking self-euthanasia? That’s a pretty big decision and one which takes some courage I’d think.

    care homes

Private equity companies make a similar killing out of children’s homes. The average cost of a place is about £6k per week but for children with the most complex needs (mental health issues, behavioural difficulties, vulnerability) the cost per week runs into tens of thousands. The sector is...

    Bird table

That’s very nice. It’s shame though that blackbirds are too big to get through. They are ground and table feeders so will miss out. My ground feeder station is surrounded by mesh just big enough for the blackbirds to get through but too small for pigeons. Unfortunately it also allows for...

A 'Past Project' from 33~34 ish years ago...

My wife has a number of dolls houses. Some of them are peopled by 1/12 scale miniature figures which she used to make from Fimo and which she sold all over the world on eBay. Most of the houses we bought as bare carcases which we then decorated and furnished, some furniture bought as kits and...
