• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months.     Quince jelly is the best thing to do with them followed closely by membrillo. We usually turn 75% to jelly and the rest for membrillo but if you have cheese and biscuits regularly then more membrillo.

    I made a bit more progress on the rough carving last night. I can put the gouges away for a while. Next is some detail planing with very finely set planes. Slow but necessary to achieve a very smooth surface.

    For me it is not just the grab of hot glue but I have not been able to get an “invisible” glue line with OBG. You need to plan your glue ups with hot glue. So far I have only had one problem which was quickly rectified.

    I have been using hide glue for two years now. I do not regard making it as a precise science. I tend to put more 50% more water than the hide glue as a starting point and then adjust it after the second cook. Which usually means more water. A good glue pot is essential.

    As you say wipe on wipe off 3 part mixes are bullet proof. A few weeks ago I opened some I mixed 30+ years ago and it worked brilliantly. I had made it with real turpentine, wow the smell. The problem is the sycamore. You have to be really careful. Oil would probably discolour the sycamore...

    You definitely need to experiment. The first one I did I carefully brushed it on. What a mess. I had to sand down a well sanded table and start again. If you go with General finishes watch their video.
