• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Church Notice Board

Some holes with suitable mesh top and bottom would be good for ventilation. I had planned on the sections being 19mm thick so that should be okay. The idea of three doors rather than two would definitely change the look. It will need some more wood. I’ll need to see if I can model it up, get...

    Church Notice Board

After some humming and harring, I have decided to go for the iroko. I will use a decent mask and be careful to avoid splinters. I think the end product should last well which is important. Hopefully I can pick up the wood next Friday. I have thought about the proportions but with the supports...

    Church Notice Board

Thank you for all the advice. Do I take that the general consensus is that I would be better using Oak than Iroko? I had hoped not to use anything to treat it with as I support Mike’s view that it is not likely to be maintained. However if there are good recommendations for treatment I am open...

    Church Notice Board

I am aware I haven't posted anything recently despite enjoying reading others WIP threads, so here goes. Our church has a notice board that is past its prime: So I have offered to make a new one. The metal supports seem reasonably solid so it seems sensible to reuse it. My first step was to...

Not quite as much new as Tally Ho, but not far off.

This was the hull I started with. I had removed the paint, rudder and lead ballast. It was shaped from two blocks of wood fixed together. The inside had been hollowed out.

A model of an international 6m that I have restored. The hull was for a pond yacht which I converted to a static model. I then added the deck and rig based on drawings and pictures on the International 6m website.

Farm Boy Hit and Miss engine

I’ve been following your thread and enjoyed the journey. A great looking engine and amazing engineering skill. You should be very proud.

    Mad capped plan?

Thanks, great to hear first hand experience which is always helpful.

    Mad capped plan?

Unfortunately the current owners haven’t lived in the property as it was owned by their parents who have died. I will get the EPC. I guess downstairs we could add some thermal mass by tiling over the underfloor heating, but would need to think about the height issues. I am not too off put by...

    Mad capped plan?

Thanks for the advice. Definitely some good basic things to do first. The only challenge some times is the sequencing of activities to ensure that work done early isn’t undone later. We certainly suffered a bit of that in our current house.

    Mad capped plan?

Thanks Roger. The last kitchen I fitted was from DIY kitchens and based on that experience I would happily go back to them.

    Mad capped plan?

Thanks really good advice. If only you lived closer! I have seen some low profile underfloor heating on offer such as this: https://underfloorheating1.co.uk/catalogue/lowprofile-underfloor-heating?srsltid=AfmBOop6dL4fwS9JrIuj7Owz0ck_RHVsVfYRCO3GRalU8jJRV8RBUxky I don’t think we have the money...

    Mad capped plan?

I am not sure we are buying it because it is spectacular, more because it is just about affordable and has the space and location we were looking for. Why is carpet a bad sign?

    Mad capped plan?

Thanks for the sound advice. I had assumed that I wanted to get the heating sorted before the first winter. Would you hold off to see what it is like with what it has got?
