• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

This was received by Stig on the UKW this morning.

" It is with great sadness that I am writing this, we have lost one of our biggest contributors, I recieved an email this morning from Phil Pascoes wife-

Morning and Merry Christmas. I'm Barb, Phil's wife. Sorry I'm late coming in with the picture of his Secret Santa gift. Phil would be mortified as he was such an early bird. Thank you for the lovely gift and the workmanship. I should have taken a picture of the dovetails too.

Sad to say Phil passed away quite suddenly a couple of days ago. He loved being part of the Secret Santa crew and I hope whoever got his gift approved as it would have been one of the last bits of work he did. The Secret Santa was always the first present he opened on Christmas morning and this was right by his desk.

May I ask you a huge favour. The website was a real life saver for Phil throughout his amputations, he appreciated the advice and stories from the people he interacted with over the years. May I ask you to let people know that he has passed away and is not ignoring requests and messages. He always commented when he no longer heard from a previous contact. I know that he tried the Woodhaven site but he always preferred this one, and he sent and received many little bits of wood and such like over the years. Thank you to all who kept him sane.

Happy for you to share my email if it makes it easier.

Thank you. "

Oh shame. He was always pleasant and interesting to interact with. The fact that his wife felt able to write in such depth so soon after his death shows just how important forums (UKW in particular) were to Phil.

What a bummer to read on Christmas Day.

Phil gave me a few books for my collection and expected absolutely nothing in return; he was a true gentleman.

Sad news, he was active here just a couple of weeks back. Never an easy time nor way to go must have been a shock to his family especially at this time of year.
Could anyone pass on how well thought of he was here too?

Years of experience, sound advice and a sense of humour. One of the best.

Lovely man and clearly very brave.
It made me think a few times when I was feeling a bit sorry for myself about what he must have gone through.

I too am sad to hear this. We corresponded occasionally and he was indeed a knowledgeable and interesting man.

Oh dear that's very sad news indeed.
I had a number of private conversations with Phil. His contributions will be sorely missed.
My condolences to his wife and family. RIP Phil

Terrible news. Phil was a stalwart of the online woodworking community, knowledgeable and generous with his knowledge. As a moderator on UKW he was always sensitive to the feelings of others and able to offer calm reasoning. I only knew him online but I liked what I saw very much. My condolences to his family and friends.

Will be missed by many, a frustrating loss of knowledge, humanity, and goodwill to the wood manglers community.

Sad day and time for his family.

I've not been able member here long but came across Phil (and some of his most interesting postings) on UKW forum. My most recent dealings with him was with him purchasing the last Lignum Vitae Crown Green bowling ball I was selling.

Sad to hear of his passing with the mention of it in the UKW Daily Digest post I received this morning - having not read any emails or online posts yesterday.

RIP Phil.

Condolences to his family and friends, Phil was a good skin.

Tom

Very sad news about Phil. Over the years, both on UKW and here, I’ve read his contributions to both forums and was always sorry to hear about his battle with diabetes and its effects on him.

Oh no. I've only just seen this. Such sad news. Phil was a great contributor to this forum and he will be missed. RIP Phil, and my condolences to his family. ☹️
