• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Anyone else been forced to watch this renovation competition show. It reminds me of changing rooms from the 90's. The bizarre thing is the winner gets given a chateau. The contestants are supposed to be diy enthusiasts but the quality of work is pants, and the woodwork even worse. As always every demographic is represented. I would love to see a show where professionals are pitted against each other.

Nope. Not heard of it. Nothing ti do with Dick & Angel presumably.

I've not seen it but it looks like one of the couples in the final is a couple I've watched on Youtube (something like Restoring Number 4 as a channel name).
These programmes are normally mildly entertaining, but my frustration with the challenges is that they are all centred around tight time constraints which naturally leads to shoddy work compared to what most conscientious DIYers would do if they had the time to do it properly.
Link to the show details are here as I found it hard to find anything other than the Strawbridge programme whilst searching: https://chateaudiy.com/win-the-dream/

I think you will find Dick & Angel have escaped the bin:

Escape to the Chateau's Dick and Angel Strawbridge announce ...
Dick and Angel Strawbridge are returning to television with a 10th series of Escape to the Chateau expected in the new year (2026), following a hiatus and their split from Channel 4. They are producing the new series independently, focusing on their continuing life and projects at the chateau, with series 11 already in planning.

They had a big bust up with the film crew and production company I think. I didn't mind the show, I always liked strawbridge from scrapheap challenge.

Scrapheap challenge is a show they should bring back. Great fun!
If you liked Scrapheap Challenge, may I recommend the YouTube channel "Way Out West - Workshop Stuff" -

I've been following it for a few years now. It's presented by Tim, who has a smallholding in Ireland. I started watching when he was building a miniature railway to move stuff round the farm. Since then, his projects have included many additions and improvements to the railway, machines to chop logs, a kiln for charcoal, a giant wheel to mince up the charcoal, a lightweight electric car and a loco for the railway. He's currently working on a series of mechanical fairground games.

Much of what he makes is from scrap or found materials and it's all with a great sense of combining work on the farm with things that are fun to do. It's one of my favourite channels.

They melted a snowflake. Dick is ex Army and speaks his mind.
In my view Dick is a practical engineering man and Angel is genuinely creative.

Long time ago he did a thing on tv building a small hydro electric generator on a diverted? stream. I found it fascinating and have always wondered why we don’t have them all along the rivers in the uk. Lot better than solar or wind in my opinion, and more fun!
Thanks Andy will have a look, sounds like my sort of thing.

That depends on whether the owners of the generators are willing to pay the Environment Agency to ‘borrow’ the water.

Personally I find Strawbridge overbearing and pedantic. As for Angel’s alleged ‘design skills’ least said the better. Strawbridge’s first wife - Brigitte - is delightful.

I find him quite enthusiastic and clever, it was amusing when he thought he could make some new windows with a decrepid old spindle moulder. I think we have one of angels duvet covers she did for sainsburys. Half decent quality as well.

Going back to the other chateau offering, the winner gets the place which they say is worth £250k. Seems alot of house and garden for that value. My wife wants to sell up and move to france now. I said I've just finished me shed, anyway I'm not moving 15tonne of machinery to bloody france.
