• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

So it is Spring now, for me it's still Winter

Snowed last night. Had to clear a patch for the dog to do her business. Pete

    Tack Hammers

Likely came out head first, besides pretty much everyone needs more iron in their diet. :giggle: Pete

    Tack Hammers

It is a learned skill that becomes part of you by repetition. When as kid I used to watch the upholsters covering chair seats. They could deliver tacks within a fraction of an inch of the fingers on the other hand holding the fabric very quickly. Pete

    Tack Hammers

My tack hammer is buried in a box in the shop somewhere. It is brass with a magnetised steel tip and wood handle. Using it takes a little getting used to but once mastered is quick and easy. Magnetic end into the box of tacks. A quick spin to turn the head of tacks towards yourself and into your...

    Workshop on a slope 2

You could look into making scissor trusses. My shop uses them and they give me an open ceiling. Pete

    Oak Sleeper Raised Beds

I made 2 foot high planter beds from pressure treated 2 x 4s and treated plywood. I lined them with the dimpled plastic membrane used against foundations here to facilitate drainage. Works well in the planters by allowing any water to drain away. Pete

Now that's how to do Customer Service!

Not too bad here unless you have lots of complicated investments or a business etc. They always correct it anyway if I forget a slip or enter the wrong amount. They know exactly what I have before I do so it is just a formality anyway. I bet they know when I'll be dying so the certainties of...

    Big square

Is there a groove along the backside of the blade not visible in the picture to reposition the blade along the body? Also is the little knob on the other end of the body another clamping knob? Or are they for adjusting the perpendicularity of the head and blade? I have a similar Starrett framing...

    Coaster holder

The coaster holder is nice but I would do some research on those old coasters. They might have enough collector value to make selling preferable to using. Pete

So it is Spring now, for me it's still Winter

The snow around here was almost gone and then last night we got a little 6" dump and it is still snowing lightly. Forecast for next week at this time is almost a foot more. It's going to be rough on the bug eating birds like the robins that started showing up a few days ago. Pete

    iPhone change

As one that has rural wifi internet from a tower 3 or 4 kilometres away, for the sake of download time I wish everyone would resize their pictures to a couple, three hundred kilobytes each. They display fine on the screen and don't take as much time to download. Some of the big file sized...

    Modern cooking — a rant.

Do you people have mechanical tenderisers in the supermarkets and meat processing plants? Meat is feed in one end of the machine and rows of needle like blades stab the meat as it passes under. Whenever beef is recalled for bacterial contamination it is usually because they used a machine that...

    Dogs’ understanding of time

Our dog has the uncanny ability to know it is half an hour before my alarm is due to go off no matter what time I set it for  so she can bug me to get up to let her out even when she doesn't need to go. Pete
