• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Resawing thick timbers...

My table saw is 3hp so I cut full depth passes but I would use a full kerf 1/8"/3mm ripping blade, not the combination blade you pictured. Pete

    Modern cooking — a rant.

We get a butchered steer from a rancher every year and all the roasts are either slow cooked in the wood pellet smoker or cooked vacuum bagged (sometimes overnight) with a sous vide thing my wife bought a couple years ago. Even takes the frozen roast and tosses it into the water bath and the...

    Ornamental lathe restoration

Spendy little toys unfortunately. I have no problem with your cleanup and reconditioning since the "patina" isn't from time and use but more from some neglect and abuse. I'll never be able to afford any of the auctioned lathes unless I can find several more wives to take care of me and that is...

    Ornamental lathe restoration

I'm enjoying this thread. Thank you. On the weekend I came across a gent in a model engineering club with some ornamental chucks. He was displaying them only and told me they were from an ornamental lathe he had bought. From his pictures it is fairly complete, including two glass cases with all...

Possible Problems with MacOS and iOS 26.3.1

The thread topic and most of the responses have revolved around Apple products and systems. It happens to us now and then but we ain't no bunch of Windows users. 🤬 ;) Pete

Fair enough. I am rural so don't have many of the restrictions you do. ptomharper never gave any information about the lot size, placement relative to property boundaries or any building size limitations so any suggestions I give still leave the legalities for the OP to consider. I should...

    Workshop strip foundation

One option you could consider would be screw/helical piles. There are small ones a do it your selfer can put in with bars or a big drill, you need more and there are the big ones put in with a hydraulic skidsteer attachment, you'll need as few as four. Your shop is roughly the size of a one car...

    Workshop strip foundation

If you lay the concrete blocks on their side won't you have to do something to keep rodents etc from making a home under your floor? If I were going to use the blocks I would lay them as they are meant to be with mortar. Then just fill the block holes with cement where you are going to put J...

Possible Problems with MacOS and iOS 26.3.1

My MacMini is using the latest version and so far no issues accessing any forums (10of).Don't usually use ducky but just tried it and it works. iPhone is running 18.7.6(22H320) and it is fine. It updated yesterday I think. Pete

Bathroom ceiling paint with slight texture? Recommendation?

I have seen in the past somewhere that drywall mud was rolled on with a paint roller. Some experimenting with different roller textures might give you what you are looking for texture wise. Might need to apply a couple three layers. Mud is cheaper than almost any paint to experiment with. Pete

Why not make it from the same wood that you used to make the door with? It looks like it is doing fine. Pete

Best way to keep a partially drunk bottle of wine - a novel approach ?

Well you could just buy box wine and the problem is solved, assuming it is available in the UK. No air gets into the bag so it keeps for a few weeks. I don't drink enough wine to justify buying them but the lushes in the group could. ;) Pete

    Workshop on a slope

The downside to the shop being far away from the house or hidden behind hedges and trees is you can't see or hear if anyone is breaking in.
