• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Charging Modern Batteries in High Ambient Temperatures.

I think all of my battery chargers have in built fans these days, I certainly hear the fans kicking in if I’ve drained a battery quickly & it’s hot to the touch when I fit it in the charger.

The Benefits Of A Hobby After Retirement

I started taking my pension in April & I’ve never been so busy, I don’t know about taking up a hobby if this is retirement I’d be better off back in full time self employment

With this beautiful weather we’ve been having I took the opportunity to fulfil an order for 5 bays of pigeon hole racking for my local merchants. This is the sort of thing they wanted They are pretty basic construction just screwed together with slotted boards back & front of each shelf to...

Geberit Type 240 and Type 340 mechanisms

What exactly are you struggling with Roger, there’s a setting for height & desired flush volume, they are both pretty basic. As for ballvalves these days I tend to stick with the brass shanked Fluidmaster fill valve, I dislike any plastic threaded ball valve for obvious reasons & I’ve never had...

    Axe-ident prone Adrian strikes again

Being tired & lack of concentration can be very dangerous when using tools, I managed to circular saw the end of my finger last week, a bad decision when tired as was not bothering to go to A&E but we live to fight another day.

    Planer thicknesser?

For me I bought one as I had been given a 1950’s Wadkin planer, I now have a planer/thicknesser but have to admit it’s not as convenient as having separate machines. As with a lot of things it’s a compromise my planer/thicknesser takes up less space & allows me to plane wider boards than I used...

    Planer thicknesser?

I suppose it’s how much thought you put into the sled Mike, off the top of my head I’d have thought some shop made adjustable wooden cam locks would make securing boards to the sled quite quick & some plastic window packers would make levelling pretty easy. I’m certainly not saying it would be...

    Planer thicknesser?

@fuse if it’s mainly short boards you are want to process I’ve often read about folks making a sled for these briefcase thicknessers which allows boards to be “planed flat” prior to thicknessing. I’ve no experience of doing this myself but I’d be surprised if there’s not YouTube videos on the...

    Getting old and stupid

I wondering if this is because I don’t usually shower in the day time but yesterday the good lady wife suggested we went to a couple of nurseries in the afternoon so as I was mucky from the mornings toils I went for a shower. It was only after I’d been in the shower a few moments & my vision...

    Planer thicknesser?

Just to avoid any confusion your thread title says planer thicknesser the machine you link to is just a thicknesser. In general these thicknessers are very noisy I don’t have experience of the metabo but did have the DeWalt version 20+ years ago, it did what I wanted it to do which was...

    Tis the season

This was a rather expensive bees nest removal, the bees had set up home in a very large chimney with 6 flue ways that were shared by 3 storey Victorian semi detached houses, both properties had had problems for a number of years with bees entering the premises via different fire places. The nest...

    American Ash

I’ve heard folks say both American kiln dried ash & oak are difficult to work but it’s not been my experience, I was planing some quarter sawn American white oak yesterday it came so cleanly off the planer it barely needs sanding. I used to save quite a bit of branch wood years ago when I did a...

    Good stuff!

Original sumogrip is as good as CT1 in fact it’s got a better cured high tensile strength but the thing I like best about it is it’s a lot cheaper than CT1

Well, that day didn't go to plan.

Is sitting down doing some carving an option to while away some time Mike, I know from my own time spent incapacitated finding something constructive to do is so good for mental health & certainly helps the days & weeks pass much quicker. You could also design some handrails for your saw horses...
