• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Password Managers

Can't decide whether to start using one or not. Tied in and eggs in one basket come to mind. Currently I have a selection of passwords that I reuse depending on how important the login security is. Not ideal as all passwords should be cryptic and all different. A password manager can generate...

    Death star

Stumbled across this woodwork related video 7AgD5NUzyOE I'd suggest watching it full screen instead of the little window the forum shows. Interesting watch for 10 minutes. Plenty of opportunities to wince at the saw guarding too. There is a CNC involved partly for jig/gauge making. We used...

Was this made before moving on to an elevating stand?

This came up on one of the 'interesting things found' sites I visit. Sort of thing that someone who could invent an elevating stand for a thicknesser might have made.. IvUU8joBb1Q Amused me anyway :)

    Cat scratching posts

I've been a bit lax in posting stuff for a while. I have been doing things just not taking pictures. I rebuilt our bathroom as my main project but didn't take a single picture! Before starting it I half finished 2 cat scratching posts for my daughter who kindly volunteered me to make them for...

cheap stud finder that appears to work..

I happened to be near an Aldi supermarket the other day so i had to have a look at the tools area. They had a stud finder for £10 so I thought I'd take a chance. https://www.aldi.co.uk/en/specialbuys/s ... etector-2/ On first testing I thought it was as useless as I'd expected it to be but...

New Car - Online broker or Dealer?

So I'm looking into changing my car. At the moment I'm looking at the new model Skoda Superb estate. 2l 190PS auto S EL trim level. The local dealer quotes £28300 from £30500 list and having used the carwow site (which puts the request to dealers) it seems about average compared to a few other...

    CCTV testing....

A policeman knocked on the door last week and said there had been a break in just up the road and to stay secure etc. We have a house alarm so not overly worried about getting chosen as the next target but further deterrent can't be a bad thing so i got the go ahead to set up some CCTV cameras...

    Parakeet invasion..

Its getting pretty noisy round here lately. This week they have decided the trees round our garden are...

Pictures from an old WIP - Dining chair test and batch

The dates on the pictures are from 2010 so it was a while ago. The text explaining the pictures was lost with WH1 so here are the pictures only. I'll add the odd word or 2 here and there for what I remember! First lot were about making 1 off as a trial and making lots of jigs for the rest...

    Reconditioning our garden lights..

Doesn't count as a WIP as there is no wood involved but I thought I may as well take some pictures as I rework our garden lights. they are 10 Watt 12V capsule lamps and I had to run doubled 2.5mm twin and earth cable along the garden just to get them evenly lit as the current draw for 20 of...

Old project - Vacuum veneering setup

So way back when i bought a vacuum pump from a private seller on ebay. I'd spent some time looking at pumps on ebay and they seemed to come in 2 types - dry vane and ones that involved oil somewhere. Dry vane seemed like less to worry about so I bid and won one of those. I'd never vacuum...

These pictures are from 2010 so another thing that was lost. not so many pictures this time so I'll add some words too :) The crown guard that came with the saw didn't work very well at catching the sawdust coming off the blade. i tried taking high speed pictures to see where the dust comes...
