• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Efflorescence on external porcelain tiles

You could try citric acid powder. 2 kg bag from amazon doesn't cost much. I use it for removing limescale all round the house. It's a fairly mild acid but it descales the kettle ok and gets the shower glass smooth and clear again. So if it doesn't solve your problem it has other uses. Most of it...

    Smart Meters

No problems here either after a year or so. It took about a week for the display to start showing gas usage on installation. Electric use was there immediately. It connects to wifi too but seems to have weak reception in what is a strong signal area. Connection to the meters is not wifi so not...

    Power sockets with USB outlets

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quick_Charge I've had a USB power meter attached while fast charging and seen the voltage go up using 'Quick charge'. the link above explains it. Just used the meter again and my phone is currently charging at 9.1V and 1.6A

    Power sockets with USB outlets

We've got a couple of USB twin sockets LAP brand from Screwfix. Seemed like a good idea at the time but we hardly ever use the USB sockets. They say 3 amp but they don't do fast charge - where the voltage gets bumped up or whatever so plug in adaptors get used instead.

    Dreadnought SS Guitar (Demo Time)

Malc, You said earlier you will pore fill with epoxy - have you found one that sands down well? I used casting resin spread thinly over my desk surface and the result was a very smooth finish that has lasted well but it was a pain to sand as the pads kept getting clogged. I need to refinish a...

Spray Paint Suppliers (East Anglia) For Kitchen and Bedroom Furniture?

Some time back I bought Acid catalyst lacquer (It was white paint really!) online from Wood finishes Direct. Morells fastmatch ACL. They now only sell it to trade buyers. I sprayed all the stuff I made for our bathroom with it and 8 years later it still looks perfect. I've sprayed Bedec MSP...

When day-to-day life changes in an instant

What a horrific thing to happen! So easy to imagine my family in that situation as it could happen to anyone. Hope recovery keeps going well. Will be thinking of you.

    A bit overdue

I believe it is another name for a wedge shaped strip - thicker one end than the other. And I guess it has 2 r's in the spelling.

    Dreadnought SS Guitar (Demo Time)

Looks scary but then so did a lot of steps you have done along the way. Looking good. is 'lonely' an autocorrect typo?

Nice job. Your new cropping tool to take off some tang looks a safe way of doing it but a jig to hold the fret and an angle grinder with sanding disc would have been faster and no filing. That's the production engineer in me speaking not the craftsman! Do carry on :)

Impressive accuracy you achieve Malc. Just a thought - I have a Chesterman 600mm steel rule that has never been damaged but it is not straight edged. Maybe half a mm or less concave one edge and same convex the other. have you checked your rules are trustworthy?

Very nice Malc. A while back I thought to myself the joins in the trim around the hole are a bit obvious.... what joins? :)

Neighbours here (NE London) took similar pictures last night. We will look tonight having been oblivious to last nights display - don't expect to see anything though!

    New Forum bugs/feature requests/dislikes etc

Maybe try a different connection method to see if your ISP or computer is the problem? Phone using cellular data not wifi instead of home broadband maybe.

    A trip down Memory Lane

My first computer bought for work was an Amstrad 8086 with a 20MB hard drive. Learned the hard way about backing up with that computer. Self assembled every PC after that. My friend taught me how to use ms-dos when I got the Amstrad. Now I help him if his computer goes wrong! I still have a...
