• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Motor advice

I think this is one for Bob! I cannot afford to change the motor on my Wade metalwork lathe just yet but would like to decide what I am looking for and keep my eyes open for a possible replacement. Here is the plate on the current motor, sorry about the odd angle, it's not that easy to get to...

    One thing leads to another

While I was limited with the toes healing I watched quite a lot of YouTube, Ben Crow of Crimson Guitars was using a bobbin sander that took strips of abrasive instead of sleeves. Well I have a SIP machine And changing the sleeves is not easy so I thought one of those drums would be a good thing...

    Not TdF, London to Southend

    A Great Present

Some of you will know that I retired in January, just after my birthday, and Joe, large son what did a great job on the barbecue at the bashes I hosted some years ago, bought me a driver experience at Bressingham. Cutting Brass sheet

As some of you will know, I am a clog wearer. The front of my clogs have a "toe tin" which protects the wood and the leather from being abraded, particularly if I kneel down, searching for things I have dropped in the the space time warp called a workshop floor. This is a clog, named after me...

Well I am just an idiot

It took until today for someone to point out the spelling mistakes, the deliberate error was missing to out in the final line. But it's all a bit pointless now as the sale got canned as I am supposed to have some work to do this week, but I sat waiting for the details to be provided so I start...

Detecting when the dustbin is full

Last year we had a thread where the problem of knowing when the bin on the dust collector is full, I suggested a paddle the gets slowed by the rising dust level. Here is my first go at this solution. The paddle is rotated by a small 12v motor at 5rpm. The small power supply has resistor in...

    Dust Collector Upgrade

I bought a 1hp dust collector quite quickly after buying my planner thicknesser to stop the shavings dropping back into the machine and marking the surface finish as they got crimped under the freed rollers. I worked OK but was not good at collecting the fine dust which came out though the cloth...

    The first one.

Well having got the new lane setup,I just had to try it out. Found a large bit of unknown wood. Cut it almost round. Screwed on a face plate ring. and turned the outside of the bowl. I cut a tenon, which you can't see in the pictures, reversed to clear the inside. Any one have an idea of...

New lathe now in the workshop

The lathe I ordered to replace the Perform was due to arrive today at 4 this afternoon, it turned up at 5 past 4. Stuart delivered it, he managed to get it to the shop door, but the crate was an inch wider than the frame, so we parked it just outside. I then moved the contents into the shop...

    Clock

This going to be a Christmas president for one of my friends, he gave me an old ta l top, he thought it was walnut burr, but it was not in very good condition. When I got it home, I found that it was a veneer with a lot of thick finish that gave it the walnut look. I cut into the board and found...

    Oak fire place / mantle

This is another old project, posted before. Our living room had a gas fire on the chimney breast, we never used it and when we had a new boiler fitted, it was pulled off the wall as the old back boiler was hiding behind it. We were left with a bit of ply stuck over the hole to stop the draft. It...
