• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Sausages

Ahh, memories; Catching the blood for Black Pudding making, Flash burning the Bristles off with straw, washing the chitlings at the pump, turning them inside-out, kicking the inflated bladder about for a few days, the smell of fat rendering for Rosemary Lard, days of plentiful offal that had to...

    Dividers for book shelves

If they are just to reduce 'sagging' of long shelves that are end supported rather than essential structure integrity, why not just make them interference fit. This would allow small adjustments in lateral positioning to accommodate book sets etc. EDIT:- If the Bookcase is just a 'functional'...

    Stain sample pots?

https://chestnutproducts.co.uk/product/spirit-stain-kit-wood-colours/ https://chestnutproducts.co.uk/product/spirit-stain-kit-rainbow-colours/ An easy and cheap option for Oak would be some steel wool and vinegar, adjusting the concentration to compare the effect.

Not sure I introduced myself before

@shafig Re Glue, whatever brand you decide to go with be very much aware of shelf life, many of the respected offerings have a relatively short shelf life in respect of 'hobby woodworker' timescales. If you are not using large quantities or have significant breaks between usage then the larger...

Must admit if I'm not in my armchair or its near surroundings I just resort to going over old ground from my .mp3 collection via Bluetooth from 'phone/tablet/ or memory stick dependant on location. .mp3 is more than a match for my hearing these days. Your favourite listenings......

Been enjoying several mixes of instrumentals and vocals out there in the guise of Audio tests. For example:- Obviously there are samples and styles that don't gel for me but overall they have been a source of some decent background listening. I do wonder at the legality of this form of music...

    Oops

Bad luck, I'd advise always having padded rotating tailstock support if offering up a lathe tool to such a piece in Cole jaws. Sanding the last central patch should be ok on the lathe but if in doubt sand the last stationary or off the lathe. This is just a cone fitted with a self adhesive...

    Destructive critter?

There's a mile or so of valley quite close to me that's nearly all managed as wildlife habitat that has traces of defunct mill races and associated ponds that is regularly subjected to uncontrolled flood and reciprocal drought that I'd love to see Beavers managing. It would once more highlight...

    Destructive critter?

My first reaction I think is the same as @Mike G I suspect, that's no cartoon Beaver but very much akin to the real thing. Has the removed wood been left as chippings surrounding the stump? Beavers don't usually eat the wood chips, only the bark, but leave chippings as a wood pile, . Around...

    Frozen shoulder.

On three occasions during that last couple of years with members of our family it's been simple physio therapy that has eased and in one case solved major 'medical' problems that were not going away.

Praise where praise is due Leicester Royal Infirmary.

Not if you live to the East or South of the city I'm afraid. Parking nightmares seem to be a major stress builder at many hospitals, both Cheltenham and Glous. are very problematic, but do have a good 15min P&R access. Text messages calling you in for an appointment after 7PM, while...
