• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Passport at the ready - UPDATED

Pretty much the same here, but SWIMBO prefers to buy new if at all possible. We do though, try and get 100K+ miles from each except our Defender which we gladly parted with after 33K miles as she started a new job and a daily commute in a Defender up the A303 didn't appeal so it was swapped for...

Are there any cheaper alternatives to this, please ?

What about one of those orange Fien jobbies? I've got one that will take not only a triangular sanding pad but umpteen different oscillating saw blades etc. My original Fien was 'borrowed' by No.1 son some years ago and it appears not to have made it's way back to Wilton - Rob

    Un Rabot de Menuisier

That's a nice find Al; with a little bit of TLC that should be a pretty good user - Rob

    Veneered table top substrate

Chances are though Malc, the ply at those widths won't be flat which ain't a lot of use. I remember a table with a starburst pattern, about the same size, being built in the firm I used to work for and as I recollect, the substrate would have been a top grade mdf but with a substantial under...

    Veneered table top substrate

If you join the substrate and use 2mm thick bandsawn veneers, the join line almost certainly won't show. If you were to to use 0.6mm wafer thin commercial veneer it would almost certainly telegraph through. The best way to check is to do a trial using small bits of substrate joined together...

    The Tapestry

That's been mentioned many times on the media Mike and it is a piece of embroidery, but it's the given name that people know - Rob

    The Tapestry

Not sure how it got to 'la belle France' but it's generally agreed that it was embroidered in the area around Canterbury - Rob

    The Tapestry

Along with thousands of others, we've decided on an excursion to the BM in the New Year to see the Bayeux Tapestry and to that end, SWIMBO ordered a little light reading: ...to prepare ourselves for the occasion. We've been to several of these prominent events at both the BM and the V&A...

    Persimmon

Absolutely not:ROFLMAO: but SWIMBO and I are well into old fartery so she decided it would be a 'good idea' for us to try it and it's actually good stuff - Rob

    Good Internet "Tutors"

I didn't realise at the time, but I lived in the same village (Deepcut) in Surrey as JK when he was alive, probably no more than 250 metres from his house. I have all his books and they're very well worth reading - Rob

    Persimmon

Soap can be made from the Persimmon fruit; we use it all the time; good stuff and lathers well in the shower - Rob

    Good Internet "Tutors"

Saint Dave of Charlesworth is great and very knowledgable, but......sloooow and soporific. Lots of folk dislike him for all sorts of reasons, but I quite like Cosman. Matt Estela is again good, but too 'shouty' and the only Sellers worth a view is the Peter variety. Mitch Peacock is a good lad...

More book stuff for SWIMBO: A slip case for another netsuke book; hand printed Japanese washi paper covers. Trickier than normal as the boards were initially bent like a banana; flat works a bit better - Rob

    Cereal shovel...

One of the side effects of Amlodipine is swollen ankles which I had after a few years on the stuff. I went back to my GP (I insist on always seeing the same one) who changed it for Felodipine, which does exactly the same job but you don't get fat ankles - Rob

    Cereal shovel...

It might be stress, but it might be the statins; say again, check the possible side effects information given on the paperwork leaflet inside the packet. Once you have a fair idea what's causing the problem, you can get your doc to kick the statins into the long grass and ask about Nilemdo. My...
