• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: Rings on the handle done with a triangular 'V' shaped lathe tool (don't know the correct name). The pic below shows our cereal buckets, the rhs is my muesli concoction which consists of loads of organic jumbo oats, granola of some sort and a muesli base from Waitrose...

    Cereal shovel...

SWIMBO's idea here; a cereal shovel in an oddment of English Walnut (needed to be a food safe wood) started yesterday afternoon and finished just now. Based on a much smaller one in Olive we bought from the garden centre a while back. A 75mm deep hole bored with a 45mm Forstner bit and then...

New Workshop layout, your thoughts please.

Much as I detest IKEA, these are absolutely brilliant and as they're as cheap as chips, you can have loads of them dotted around the 'shop - Rob

SWIMBO has bought more antique Japanese books on netsuke so this set (six in all, 200 years old) required an archive box to store them. Archive board, bookbinding tools and a vast range of covering papers can be purchased from Shepherd's Bookbinders, just behind Victoria Station in Londres...

I remember them; very handy indeed for all sorts of stuff. If memory serves, they had a yellow plastic handle?- Rob

Done- hammer handle for Japanese gennou hammer

Nice online shop with some pretty fancy tools and packaging to boot...which you pay for! At Inoue Hamono all their kit is specifically for the professional Japanese chippies, who aren't interested in a fancy box, labels or posh woods for chisel handles. What they do demand is top quality, work...

Done- hammer handle for Japanese gennou hammer

I was tempted by the huge array of hammer heads I saw in Tokyo at Inoue Hamono. Having the breaking strain of a Kit-Kat, I was sorely tempted but alas, common sense and my spending limit on the CC prevailed - Rob Edit - all the hammers that customers could play with had bespoke, home made...

Help and guidance sort: hand planes renovation 🙏

I use a grey Webrax pad to do that (like the green stuff but a bit finer) as 0000g wire wool disintigrates in use and may leave particles behind in the grain which could then turn black; not good especially on Oak with plenty of tannin in it. That said, if the Oak is well sealed (coupla decent...

Help and guidance sort: hand planes renovation 🙏

I wonder if 0000g wire wool + WD40 would be as effective? I rarely see rust on anything because of the way I accidentally built the 'shop years ago, but it does annoyingly happen occasionally. The last time was on a LN plane blade where a smear of water was trapped between the back of the iron...

New Workshop layout, your thoughts please.

When I did have a tablesaur, (Kity 419) it occupied the space where the router table now sits. Any long pieces sawn on it went through a 'letter box' in the door (not my idea but one I blagged from the late JK...Jim Kingshott) so even if the heavens were melting outside, I could still saw wood...

I've had enquiries on my Farcebook 'Wilton Woodwork' page, for example somebody wanted a pair of stair gates. I replied I would be happy to make them but as they were in the USA, p&p would be prohibitive:ROFLMAO: - Rob

New Workshop layout, your thoughts please.

You've been into mine Ian, so you know the layout. The assembly table dominates the middle of the 'shop together with an open space about 2m square and it's those two things that determine what and how big your projects will be. The 'Tool Wall' faces West (deliberately) as too much natural...

The Niff-Naff Cabinet; glazing, waxing and finally DUN n'DUSTED!

Thanks Ian; the arris on the most prominent edges was done with a tiny round over bin it the router table, then tidied with 320g paper. Shorter edges and 'blind' corners were initially done with sanding sticks where sandpaper is stuck to a bit of ply (or similar) with ds tape and the excess...

    IT expert advice please

We're with Zen (thanks to Rog S) and we ditched our land line completely a coupla years ago, so it has ceased to be and shuffled off this mortal coil etc etc; we rely on our mobile iPhones for any incoming calls - Rob Edit - we're also now on Zen full fat fibre as of this year with a Eero router
