• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Our local farmer told me that any car which you'd be worried about putting a dead sheep into is too smart.

    Outside door frame - finished

I've been cracking on with this. I'm not doing a full WIP but have included some photos below of the "hammerhead" tenon joint. To get to this point I have: been to the timber yard and bought some air dried oak (which has been good but a little bit gnarly in places - wandering grain etc.)...

    Quick and easy round table

That really is sneaky! I'm impressed by the end grain veneer though, even if the grain didn't match! I'm interested to see where you're going with this.

Mike builds a teardrop (hatch detail)

This is such a novel project. You're having to plan and problem solve every step of the way. It's great!

    Possible New Project - Trophy

By 5-sided, I just meant whether the top would be wood or glass. It will be cuboid!

    Possible New Project - Trophy

The case is showing it's age, but I don't mind that. It's 140 years old after all! I think having the case open with the spoons lying in it would be fine. I was a bit worried about the spoons falling out, but they're actually quite snug in the case and don't move around. As long as it's not...

    Possible New Project - Trophy

I hadn't thought about gluing the glass to the wood. That would massively strengthen it. I wonder what glue he used? I love the model and the display case!

    Possible New Project - Trophy

I was looking at those earlier this morning. I might be up for the challenge, but I really want to keep the wooden parts of the glass box as slender as possible, and I wonder if a 3-way mitre would just be far too fiddly (and therefore too weak)?

    Possible New Project - Trophy

I just had a brainwave... The sort of thing I have in mind is the sort of case that old aneroid barometers come in. Something like this: This one seems to have splines to strengthen the mitred corners for the lid and base of the glass box. That might be a good choice. Mitred mortise and...

    Chairs - Done!

That's very kind thank you. I have had the luxury over the past few years of being able to put a LOT of time into this (for me) hobby.
