• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

New table saw (UK)….. that is the question

Being fortunate enough to have a bandsaw. A table saw and a track saw I think they are all good for different things. If I were starting out again I think I would go for a track saw with an MFT type table as a way of getting very repeatable and accurate cuts for less than the cost of a decent...

    Fixing conundrum

I confess I am nervous about the idea of fixing vertically as the joint will be under tension. I like Andy’s idea of putting the handles on the end so the fixing is in shear which is likely to be stronger. As suggested by many something more than just glue seems like a good plan as it is a...

    Another tool chest

Gary, thanks for sharing. Much more advanced than my joinery, but fascinating to understand how it is done. Maybe I’ll have to give it a go one day.

    BBQ trolley

Hi Andy, possibly. It depends on how we are doing for space. Currently it is outside under a cover.

    BBQ trolley

Hi Duke, No its a pair of rollers from Hongdui in China. The rollers have one way bearings in so you can't get kick back. They are also angled slightly towards the fence so it holds the wood in tight to the fence which makes ripping more accurate. They seem very well made...

    BBQ trolley

And this was the latch done And that completed the trolley. I hope that has provided some interest and if nothing else I have certainly learned from making it. Now I just need some good weather to see what it is like using an electric barbecue.

    BBQ trolley

Again after a bit of head scratching I decided I had enough wood for slats across the top with a bit of overhang and no need to use the really dodgy looking bits. First I cut the long planks to length. Then as you can see the sides had some chamfers that needed ripping off. After that I ripped...

    BBQ trolley

Well its been a while since I updated the thread, but spoiler alert, its finished! Before we get there I ought to complete the journey. At last count I was gluing up the frame. I then went on to glue the legs that will have the wheels on them. For the fixed legs I decided it would be good...

    Bob '9fingers' Minchin

I am really sad to hear the news. Whilst I never met Bob I have enjoyed his wisdom on the forum. He also managed to hold the mantle of woodworking with machines rather than by hand but did it with respect for all. My condolences to his family and friends for the loss.

    Mike's ext'n & renovation (solar panels)

Thanks for the sharing how you made the leaded windows, fascinating to see. Did you use glue with the fox wedged tenons or just rely on mechanical hold? I assume the latter.

Mike, many thanks that’s really helpful

    Clock hammers

Eric, thank you for the thoughtful reply. I agree the simplest solution would be to take it to a clock repairer who knows what they are doing. My father was going to talk it the local one he has used in his village, but it is closed indefinitely following the owner being injured. I was...

Festool OF 1400 Copy Ring Fix

Mike, thanks for sharing. I was aware of the problem with the guide bush installation in the OF1400. That disc with the mandrel looks like a very neat fix. Do you have the CAD drawings for the disc and mandrel? I was wondering if they would work well enough if 3D printed or if that would lead...

    Clock hammers

Ian, thanks for that as an idea, I certainly have some choc blocks in the garage. I don’t tend to use them for electrical stuff these days as I have become lazy using the Wago lever connectors. However I might have something of a reasonable size. Might need a bit of adaption for the plate at the...

    Clock hammers

I am again looking to call on the forum's collective wisdom. I recently helped my parents move a grandfather clock as they were having a carpet replaced. The chimes haven't been working recently, but when dismantling it I noticed one of the hammers has come off. The metal bar / wire has...

    BBQ trolley

All good ideas. I need to think a bit more about the top, but have been focusing on the base at the moment.

    BBQ trolley

So after some more planing you can see the handle getting more round. From there I resorted to a bit of sanding in a couple of different ways. Firstly using a bit of paper glued to a length of wood. Then holding it upright in the vice and unsing a long length of paper to pull backwards and...

    BBQ trolley

Well Over the last few weeks I have made a little bit of progress ( not the supersonic speed of some forum members!). I have been wondering about keeping the wood out of contact with the floor to reduce the chance of rot. I have some plastic feet on M8 threads, so I tried putting a suitable...

    BBQ trolley

Hi Duke, Sorry for not replying sooner. I have not come across light gauge panels in DIY stores in the UK, but maybe I just haven't looked in the right places.
