• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

I don’t like our new induction hob

How does power consumption compare when you need to slowly cook items? - inevitable vehicle analogy- I need to get the shopping from Tescos without speeding fines rather than win the Monaco GP!

Name the date - 15%, dry enough to paint

Im dubious about moisture meters after seeing a consumer progamme on Tv exposing the damp proofing industry. They had a thermalite block on the bench and another in a tank of water. Same reading.....

Our normal glass topped one has 1600 and 1100 pairs. So the induction ones are surely more expensive to run In an energy conscious climate???

    Toolbox

For frequent repeat jobs (like 6 month oil change on the van) I put the minimum tools and equipment in tote trays and leave them as is. Geneal diy tools are in a plastic toolbox in the spare room Metric sockets and spanners in a metal cantilever toolbox, imperial in tins and homemade toolrolls.

I actually find woodworking power tools less forgiving to moments of carelessness. Kickback management systems and low profile chain/bar systems on modern chainsaws are very effective which just leaves the reputation. If you are fearful of a cutting tool then you will not be fully applied in its...

    Saw blades

Thats all pretty much what I though thanks No one runs higher than the gullet? On the subject of blades is there experience of the £100 type blade sharpening grinders? Instead of buying more ebay disposables ,I might invest in a decent blade so it would be worth sharpening either by sending it...

    Saw blades

At risk of starting an argument what is the correct hight of a tablesaw blade Ive read conflicting articles saying either the minimum protusion above the material for safety or 'a lot' so the blade pushes the material down not out at you. Also as I work a lot with soft wood I get a fair amount...

    Laminated flooring - every day's a schoolday

The last lot I put down was Wickes 12 mm with some sort of fancy click together system but despite my cynicism it worked just fine and after three years in a heavily trafficked area it still looks brand new. The previous job ten years ago was , like Rogers,an eye opener but not in a good way. A...

Outdoor wood preserver and finishing product?

I use raw (cold pressed) linseed oil on my bee equipment after an initial two coats of cuprinol wood preserver ( the non insecticide one for obvious reasons) After a few coats its pretty much impervious to moisture but the downside is in damp shady conditions it blackens. It takes a long time to...
