• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Fixing slipped slate from the inside

Cant think how you could from the inside. That fabric is the breather membrane which allows moisture out but is water proof should a tile fail it stops water getting in your attic. Slates are nailed onto battens.

    Jewelry box

Have you ever tried filling any voids with brass? I did on a project once. I got the filings from my local key cutting place. I used CA glue, and then sanded back.

    Turning a carving mallet

I was at a car boot sale with my father in law once and he came up to me all excited with a bargain he had bought for me. A bag of balls to make mallets with. Turns out they were resin/plastic ones. My arm nearly dropped off lugging them around for the remainder of the sale.

    cherry blossom

I used to have a few allotments and did the show veg and a few flowers when I was a kid. Im more of a make it up as I go along type of gardener. I was a toddler when the Daz flowers were offered, I'm sure my wife would of loved them, she put some more flowers in one part and it looked like a...

    cherry blossom

According to the old couple I bought the place off. They were the second tennents, the first one was a coucillors daughter who got the best biggest plot on the new development. The place was quite well landscaped by council workers so the stories go. I've found big stone blocks with ridges on...

    cherry blossom

This tree has been in decline for the last 10 years, it got a hard prune and never really came back from it. Anyway about 18months ago I was shredding a load conifer branches and spread the mulch around the base and general area. I'm not sure if this years flower display is a last huzzah or the...

Yes Andy, I've always liked to old victorian theme, I've put a nice wall clock in also. I did find some lovely william morris strawberry thief wallpaper in my wifes stash...

    shed revamp

All done, got some doors free off facebook, took them to bits. It really is shocking how modern internal doors are made. Bits of polystyrene or honey comb of carboard. I had some nice ash dado that I'd made years ago.

    Axminster Cardiff Shop

The only reason charity shops are struggling is because they upped their prices, when they are charging a similar or greater price than a proper shop then there is something wrong. I understand resellers were buying there stock from them but the purpose of a charity shop was to help less well...

    Hi I'm new here

Welcome Peter, thats how I started with machines, the next thing I knew I had 15 lumps of cast iron ranging from 200kg upto 2.5tonne and 10 machines stood in the garden waiting to be rebuilt. I have since kerbed my addiction and only have 1 machine in the garden. I've not done any startrite...

    Finish for oak in kitchen?

I dont think theres much that will compete with the endurance and un stainable finish of osmo. Prabably the only stuff you can spill beetroot juice on and get away with it. I did my oak worktops 5years ago and have just redone them, the only areas that look a little worn was the high traffic...

    Carlton Scroop 12th April

That does look quite fun to be at. I went to a local car boot which had a hand tool guy. There was a little set of drawers containing 48 carving chisels. Bit out of my league at £500

    Acetone

I didnt realise that how good proper acetone is. I've used the stuff my wife has for her nails in the past and found it a bit useless. It wasnt until I had a spray gun that I'd used polyester spray filler which I couldnt clean properly. Synthetic thinners would barely touch it. Someone suggested...

A plea for help and advice on behalf of RogerS

Ive lost count the amount of times I have used couriers, maybe 60 at a guess. In that time I've had 4 incidents and only 2 were totally their fault. The insurance payed out. One they payed out £750 when all I wanted was £100 to replace some handwheels. I got the machine as well.

A plea for help and advice on behalf of RogerS

I use national pallets and it would cost £118. Its not that heavy so a driver wouldnt need help loading. Assuming the hardstanding is not gravel etc.

A plea for help and advice on behalf of RogerS

Is it on a pallet?, if so then a pallet courier will do it and cost about £100, they use 171/2 tonners. If not then either get someone to go put it on a pallet and secure it, then either arrange courier or hire a luton with a tail lift. Lutons are rated at 500kg but I've lifted bigger. The...

    Vintage Wood Machining Books

Ooh that is a nice one. An interesting snippet of history is that when Mr wadkin left the company he set up another machinery company called wadkin mills with a chap called thomas scott king. They made a pattern miller. When Mr wadkin passed away in 1921 the company was purchased by wadkin. That...
