• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

About a year now Mike. But the lumberjack had told me at the time that its dry wood (tree been dead for years apparently). So I had sealed the end grain and let it in the airing cupboard under the porch at the front of the house (well, its just a cupboard outside front door really, under cover...

Window ledge, jointed (I onow you're thinking 'where's the joint', well its slightly to the left 😆). Hopefully it passes the 'wife test' tomorrow and I can get on with shaping it later tomorrow. If not, I'll probably get some mdf sill board and make an ugly one out of that... then tell her its...

Using Araldite blue (standard epixy glue) for sealing Sycamore!

Thanks v much for this Mike. I've certainly spent far too long processing this wood (originally got the tree from some lumberjacks a year ago) to allow it cupping. I'll sand all the Araldite off. Square some more into the cracks then give it a nice coat of varnish on the back before...

Using Araldite blue (standard epixy glue) for sealing Sycamore!

@Mike G I was really only using it to fill the holes to make all uniform (couldn't afford to start resawing and planing any more sycamore). But after applying the araldite in the hole I thought I'd be clever and cover the whole thing. I never knew that was a commandment of sealing the back with...

Using Araldite blue (standard epixy glue) for sealing Sycamore!

Thanks @Malc2098 and yes certainly. Finishing/sealing/filling mainly (well, you know) is what I want. I'll take a look.

Using Araldite blue (standard epixy glue) for sealing Sycamore!

After convincing the wife that I should be allowed to make the wash room (toilet room, sorry) window ledge out of my beautiful sycamore. I finally got it kinda flat (other side doesn't matter as much) but that ugly rip down the middle. Hmmm... So I decided first that I'll use standard epoxy to...

Oh, and the latest jointing (for drawer number 4) with/from the pine skirting me and my little one had rescued from a local dumpsite (well, ok, someone garden but when we managed to find the owner we asked and he said it was ok). After I'd completed one of the sides (back or front, I forget...

Drawer number 4 in the making. Now, before I started attempting these drawers (of which I've always been slightly afraid) I'd read Pekovich in his brilliant book, say that 'only introduce one new technique to your woodworking, per project'. Well, drawers one and two had grooves for the ply...

I used to work for a (very intelligent, but generally unable to control his temper) client who owned a mug with the same statement. Persevered with his tantrums (well, the staff could never get anything right even if they did the job the way he'd wanted it, the last time) for almost a year. Then...

Oh well... Ealier today, entered the rabbit hole of trying to get perfectly parallel. Though I never succeeded at thar, I did however manage to get away from the dreaded loo roll as door-stop-support (or more accurately, support to the door stop). I don't claim to have the best of finishes, but...

Good point. I did orientate it with the appropriate angle. But in the rush, I just managed to make it 'roughly' parallel to the door when it touches. Will go get my pencil, mark parallel around, and try to flatten it a bit more... Thanks for that. Indeed, yes I do have a same/similar problem...

New doorstop for the freshly decorated/plastered bedroom. Wife had been using a toilet roll leftover, so I thought I'd surprise her by chopping down a piece of sycamore thats been sat unloved in the garden (lots more sycamore too but that's drying, appropriately). Anyway, after seeing it she...

    Tool thefts in England

This is no joke. A guy that used to live in (I suppose, council property or something sort of high-turnover flat) the opposite property overlooking ours. One night he was jumping through the various gardens at my house and the neighbours. Yielding what looked to be a massive forearm length...

Is there such a thing as 'cheap' paring chisels!

Got yourself a right dwal there. I know you're going power tools, but give that number 05 a nice sharpen and you'll love it. Very nice chisels indeed.

    Tool thefts in England

£17,000 worth of tools/damage and the police just wanted to give him a crime reference number. I had a (aluminium, road worker type) brick lobbed at me from the other side of thw road from a Highway Maintenance type vehicle. Police officer first called me up to help prepare me to say I'd not...

Blum under drawer sliders, 3rd, 3th and 5th set placed. 1st drawer (well, 3rd) no in progress. But decided to recycle one that I've been holding onto for years. Only it'll go in back to front and its therefore only the (new) front I need to arrange. Sides thinned out to the required 16mm. Pics...

Seems to have worked well. After which I used some of the melamine faced chipboard to make a second shelf in a corner which was really not being utilised well!!. Thought of @Accipiter and recycling at its best.

Thanks Malc. Pocket screws is the word I was looking for. Anyway, all removed now. Will give it a light sanding with my Metabo (and posh Mirka discs I'd have one know 😀) and give it a little lick of quick dry varnish. Built 3 mm too long too, so (slider rail) wouldn't engage the...
