• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Upgrading my wearing out shed - in stages on a budget

May as well put down this little project here into words. Basically I'm planning to increase the footprint, but budget is limited. A few 'must haves' and a few 'could do with' items on the list. Which hopefully will make themselves apparent as I get along. No specific plan in mind, just a loose...

Disston D8 28 inch Rip Saw - RIP

So, my best ever saw. You know, the one I found and settled on after about another couple of £100s spent seeking out the best saw to rip my sycamore tree. The one that would bring a smile to the face when ripping through massive chunks of lumber. Well, it had a bit of a concave (belly as Paul...

Holdfast holes - is there really much science behind palcement?

Hi all. After many many moons just getting away with workholding using Irwin clamps, my Zeiss, Sheffield Tool Co, Axminster QR and sometimes my Stabila 1m level... or whatever else comes to hand. I've finally got a couple of nice Holdfasts from the UKW forum. Apparently made by an ex forum...

Using Araldite blue (standard epixy glue) for sealing Sycamore!

After convincing the wife that I should be allowed to make the wash room (toilet room, sorry) window ledge out of my beautiful sycamore. I finally got it kinda flat (other side doesn't matter as much) but that ugly rip down the middle. Hmmm... So I decided first that I'll use standard epoxy to...

The 'Working In (almost) Complete Silence and I Made This' thread

Self explanatory really. But if you made something using hand tools only and you managed to not disturb the troll/ogre. Then post a pic here. Try to use less words but feel free to get/give a good idea of how you made it. By way of example, tapping with a mallet would probably not be completed...

Workshop Companion reaches a million subs!

Just seen this and thought to share. What a wonderful and down to earth teacher and always very nice in his method of passing on knowledge. Well done that man...

Is there such a thing as 'cheap' paring chisels!

Not sure if this is the place to post this. But, I rather like not getting out my electrical tools (par [or is it, 'bar'!] the humble cordless drills) too often. They have their uses but I quite enjoy the journey and every day is a school day. Besides, hand tools won't chop my arm off as...

Not sure I introduced myself before

Hi all. Shafiq. Found this after Tris mentioned it on that other forum. Been keeping an eye but just as a window shopper. My woodworking skills slowly getting better (very very slowly) after actually starting to read the Pekovich book (and lots of good advice from some fine folk on here... and...
