• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Stainless rack for Ninja Crispi 4-in-1?

I'm looking to get one of these for my daughter https://ninjakitchen.co.uk/product/ninja-crispi-4-in-1-portable-glass-air-fryer-cyber-space-fn101ukgy-zidFN101UKGY but reading around the net it looks like the rack has an undisclosed coating, which makes its claim to be 'non-toxic' questionable...

    Destructive critter?

Our small (6') fig tree has been in the ground a couple of years. But today, I noticed it wasn't there - it had been there a few days ago. It's been gnawed away at the bottom, a bit like a cartoon beaver's work but on a smaller scale. It really is quite neat and precise. My first thought was...

    Knife making

Back in 2022, I read Dr.Al's thread on making a beautiful knife at the forge in Hereford, and soon after took my son to have a go at beating a billet of steel into the shape of a knife. (It was a snowy day shortly before Christmas, such a treat.) He loved it, but we never got around to finishing...

    Grinding wheel blotters

Very quick one - are the paper labels around the centre of grinding wheels the blotters? Or is a blotter in addition to the labels? I've tried to search the net and failed. Thanks.

    BAILEY No7 value? Advice sought.

Edit - on reflection, should this be in the Hand Toolery section? Apologies if so. I need to sell this as it gets no use these days - I bought it when trying to learn to make tables about seven years ago for £100. Looking at Stanley/ Bailey No7 on ebay they seem to vary a lot from about £50 to...

    Battle of the adjustables...

Well, not really. We've been helping a friend's dad clear his garage of old tools, buying some for ourselves. I just cleaned these up this morning, after some electrolysis yesterday - left to right, Crescent (USA), Bahco (Sweden) and Elora (Germany). They look beautiful and clearly decent...

    Varifocal glasses

I picked up a new pair of glasses yesterday, the first time I've had any for distance (I've had reading glasses for years). Varifocals - I find them really odd. Do you get used to them in time? I just took the dog for a walk and felt like I was a bit inebriated at times, and generally find them...

    Best alternative to Photoshop?

I restarted my imac recently and can no longer get Photoshop CC to work, apparently my free trial has finished (I've subscribed since they brought in the CC version so no idea what's happened). As I no longer need it for work, it's probably a good time to stop paying them each month and get a...

    Which micrometers?

I'm drawn to a used set of these, for sale nearby for a relatively low price (in very good condition, apparently): https://www.hoffmann-group.com/GB/en/houk/p/420800-0-100#downloadsAndDocuments But for a little more, I can buy the first four micrometers on this link (new), and I do think...

Denbigh Drill Press (not - Meddings pillar drill 3ph to 1ph conversion)

I can buy the attached drill for £70, but it's 3ph, which we don't have. I wouldn't want to attach a vfd as it'll probably be moved around the workshop from time to time. A 1ph .25kw tec motor will cost about £100 (at the moment there's a 1/3hp motor on it). Total cost about £170. Is it worth...

How to use files - film

I thought some of you might enjoy it as much as I did. Back in the days when they left the credits on screen long enough to read them!

    Baguettes?

Waitrose: Today's - and they're consistently like this: not properly browned (especially toward the centre), not crispy. and the interior is nothing like a French baguette, more like a regular sandwich loaf. Is it the same in all Waitrose(s?), or just ours? I've found Tesco is better, and...

    Fish Dishes?

Now my youngest has flown the nest, I'm cooking for one in the evenings. Not having to have a conversation about what's for tea, I seem to have defaulted to frozen fish, the breaded/ whatever variety, and realise I've wanted to eat mainly fish for quite a while but haven't on account of...

    Dinghy advice?

A friend recently gave us this Gloucester Light Dory rowing boat, which had sat for umteen years, and which we did some basic work on to look like this: It's 15'6" long and a faff to load onto my lad's car, much worse to get onto my van, so I went looking for a cheap trailer, up to a few...

    Jacobs chuck

The Jacobs chuck that came with our Myford lathe is in pretty poor condition - I've tried to sort it and failed. Actually, it's a fair bit worse after today's efforts. It's a No. 34 0-1/2" chuck on MT2 and I'd like to replace it with a similar size one but not pay a huge amount - can anyone...

    Tracy Tools HSS drill bits?

Has anyone used these? They are pretty cheap and I'd assume at least decent quality from Tracy Tools, but thought I'd ask. https://www.tracytools.com/product/drill-set-10-10mm/ or https://www.tracytools.com/product/drill-set-10-13mm/

    Lignum vitae?

I'm looking for a cylindrical lignum vitae mallet and can't really find one of the right size and certainly not the right make. So I'm looking for an alternative make. I've spotted this one for sale but can't get a reply from the seller about what wood it is. I know it's hard to identify many...

    Sykes Pickavant panel hammers

We picked up these panel beating tools yesterday. All need some cleaning up but look to be in reasonable condition (apart from one handle which needs replacing, and one which is loose, and the panel itself seems to have some primer misted across the lower half, not sure how to deal with that...

Record power RSBG8 - wheel grits?

Does anyone know what grits the two wheels on this are? https://www.recordpower.co.uk/product/r ... th-uk-plug For some reason RP don't seem to make it apparent. I'm looking for one with 120 on the wider wheel, and not too harsh on the narrow one. Thanks, C

    13A Plasma Cutter

We're looking to get one that works properly on a regular domestic supply. This one looks good (John 'doubleboost's' review) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Vf5QORwcnU but not cheap at £500+, plus the air compressor. Are there others that would work unproblematically on 13A plug that cost less...
