• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Stanley victor N20

Annoyingly my compass plane decided to throw itself off the bench & even though it landed on an extractor hose which was on rubber matting the frog has broken Now this has sentimental value so I’d really like to repair it & whilst I know it’s a very long shot I wondered if anyone has a...

    Workshop (clean up)

I forgot to take a before photo but the sink area at the back of my workshop had become a real dumping ground the last few of months of 2025, I’d had so much work on particularly on the run up to Xmas that I just hadn’t had time to sort things out. Well that’s all been put to rights over the...

    Garden room restoration

A dear old friend has this style of garden room The problem is where the interlocking timber meet on the corners These are rotting & prior to painting a few years ago he screwed 3x2’s to the corners to try & reinforce them, this hasn’t really worked. His thoughts are to clad the outside &...

    Is it milder

It seems to me to have been a very wet cold winter but the plants in the garden don’t seem too agree, this is our rhubarb basking in today’s sunshine I can’t remember it being this advanced in March before, it’s ready for harvesting

    Cast iron woe

For longer than I care to admit my bandsaw fence has been difficult to re-adjust once the Bristol lever had been loosened from the fences previous locked setting , lifting the far end of the fence freed the carrier so I’d just got into the habit of doing this. Yesterday as I had some spare time...

    Photo storage ideas

My phone a Motorola is 5 years old & whilst still working okay I’ve been wondering recently about how to go about storing all the photos I’ve taken on it in that time in part as the memory is getting full ? Bessey TW-KLI

Over the years I’ve done lots of metal working but more often than not it’s involved a very good engineering mate & if I’m honest I’ve done more assisting than anything else. As is his way he informed me a while back that I needed to become more independent in my engineering as he wasn’t...

    Redwood cupboard

A lady I’ve done work for for a few years ask if I could make a cupboard to cover her electric meter, the original cupboard had to be removed when a stair lift was fitted recently & the hallway wasn’t large enough to accommodate the original cupboard & the lift seat. Her choice of timber was...

    Mini router table

I’ve had a Makita battery trim router for a couple of years now & find it invaluable, it really is useful, easy to set up & generally a pleasure to use. Unfortunately at times it’s too easy to reach for & I have on occasion’s rather than set the spindle moulder up simply clamped the battery in...

    I’ll not forget this one

Thought I’d share this, a couple of years ago an old customer of mine decided to downsize to a bungalow over the last two years I’ve been slowly putting right some of the worse work I’ve ever seen all of which her surveyor failed to mention :o Some of this included a bath the waste pipe of...

    Garden room

Managed this evening to get the final coat of Sadolin Super Dec on the garden room I’ve been building in my spare time for the last 3 months, it’s mainly made from recycled gear or materials I already had the main exceptions being the soffit, facia & roofing materials. All the external trim...

    Offcuts

I suspect like most woodworkers I hate throwing timber away but what I’m also terrible for is not looking at what I’ve got before placing an order for the next job, I usually get a price on what I need when quoting & if I get the job just order up what I’ve priced, it’s just easier than...

    A new one to me

I’ve been helping a mate today reorganise his workshop whilst moving stuff around I came across this It has a small thick blade not unlike a plane blade. It is hand cranked He told me what he thought it was for but it wasn’t something I’d never heard of & I wondered if anyone had...

    Workshop humidity

If you could choose the percentage level of humidity in your workshop what would it be? I ask as I’ve recently bought a new dehumidifier for the workshop, my previous one as very old & had no controls I simply plugged it in & it worked, the new one however has humidity settings. After initially...
