• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Which contact adhesive?

Evening chaps! I need to veneer a cabinet back and drawer bottom. my plan is to resaw some oak for the veneers around 2 mm which i guess will end up 1-1.5mm after sanding. i plan to use 4 or 5mm ply as a substrate and with the lack of a vac system or long reach clamps was just planning to use...

    MAGNETS! do you?

I recently knocked up a small house for my planes, just used screws so i can move the dividers for upcoming additions. Do you chaps use magnets? I found they are excellent for holding those pesky Veritas planes where the handle sticks out. Also great for smaller planes to keep them grounded...

    screwdriver recommendation

specifically for chip breakers, i dont fancy £50 on a Veritas or Lie Nielson screwdriver and i just slightly borked my chip breaker screw on a new plane using a screwdriver too small.

I know this may come across as being a bit delicate, but having been on a bit of a hand tool buying splurge recently (sadly not used/vintage as im just too lazy to fettle) how do you deal with all the mess as hand tool woodworkers? this maybe a bit OCD but i find myself constantly turning on...

    Bench top advice wanted please

So I think i may have shown my "worktable" previously. its a 2x4 frame, legs laminated to 4x4, its all a bit ish. it holds my folded up MFT with a router table next to it all in one. The problem with an MFT is its less than useless for anything involving a hammer or a plane. so i wanted to...

    new square not square?

I'm assuming im doing it right? this came yesterday and i have checked it against a 12" starrett combi as well as 10" and 12" engineers squares from Kinex. seems this should be a bit better for 6" and a hundred quid ? for hands free I used a small clamp to keep it in place and a little light panel

    Tool storage

how do you chaps organise and store your hand tools? Its something I need to sort out but reluctant to build a hanging tool cabinet, they seem ideal back in the day when we didnt have modern tool chests, but i guess a lot cheaper than a roll cab. For power tools, everything just sits in its...

The new neighbour is a professional tree slayer, JACKPOT! Being wiley git, I saw he had some logs and offered to take them off his hands, after running them through the saw i let them dry a bit in the garage which has been 20c+ for a few months and today decided to skim the faces to get a...

Has anyone bought wood from auction?

I was smooching around the internet last night and came across BPI, who had a wood auction which seems like a decent way to buy timber (providing you can machine it) https://www.bpiauctions.com/auctions/#! ... tails/3912 Any thoughts? or is this a non starter?

    storing polyx

Im going to assume this relates to many finishes, but how do you store yours? I opened a can of osmo this morning which had a lovely thick skin on it, I have tried the trick of putting some cling film between the lid which doesn't seem ideal. Have seen in the US they have "no loss bags" which...

    Ash games table

So up to this point is a bit light on photos (apologies, must improve). and the writing is going to be appalling but effort will be made. I popped down to Yandles last friday to pick up some Ash for this project, bearing in mind in generally pulling this out my a*se as i go along, the only...
