• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Yep, that's the sort of thing.

    Knife handle help

Angry grinder and a flap disk is quite easy to control (and far easier than a grinding disk). You'd be surprised how easy it is to control where it goes (helped by the slightly convex shape of the flap disk). I wouldn't bother with a Dremel (clone or otherwise).

    Starlink query

    Fixed that for you 😉

    Knife handle help

I'd grind them flush with an angle grinder and flap disk. Failing that, I'd do what you said with relief holes. Just to throw another option out there, mark the centre as carefully as you can and centre punch. If it's slightly off centre, re-centre punch with the punch held at an angle (which...

Electrical mystery (DC). Can you help?

Can you use a bit of chunky mains cable as the extension? Whatever you use, measure the resistance of the extension & then you can subtract that off whatever you measure with the extension in place.

Electrical mystery (DC). Can you help?

It's hard to diagnose these sorts of things remotely, but it sounds like you have a very high resistance connection between buzz bars and light connection (e.g. some very thin and not very conductive wire). When you measure the voltage at the light connection, there's no current flowing, so the...

    Starlink query

We've got some friends in Wales who have Starlink and they've bought a few repeaters to use as a mesh. They said it was really easy to set up and has worked really well. We're about to migrate to Starlink too (but I'm installing it myself), but we already have a mesh set-up so we're just...

For toilet roll / kitchen roll or something like that?

    I'd bet on cheaper.

WIP - my version of Dr Al’s travel tool chest and workbench

Yeah, most nail varnish remover is acetone plus additives. The proper stuff is cheap & incredibly useful. I buy it from hexeal, 5 litres at a time (I use it a lot). This is an amazon link for the stuff I get (direct from hexeal is cheaper). I obviously don't know what US suppliers are best but...

WIP - my version of Dr Al’s travel tool chest and workbench

I presume that is something other than Loctite 603 - is it a "temporary" threadlock? I imagine acetone will shift it. Acetone is wonderful stuff and it's well worth having a bottle of it in the workshop.

    Salt and Pepper grinders

We have to refill our pepper grinder at least four times for every refill of the salt one.

    Salt and Pepper grinders

They look lovely Andy. I like the colour variation as a way of seeing the difference.

Post a photo of the last thing you made...

Some things... The plastic bits were made by the 3D-printer, the 50 mm diameter aluminium bits were turned from 50.8 mm (2") bar by me (and the steel rule was made by Shinwa :) ) I don't really know what any of these are - they're for my father. He's in the process of making a weaving...

A simple wedge system for work holding.

Not me: Steve. I can't remember the last time I looked for posts under any of the categories to be honest. I tend to just go to the new posts page that covers everything.

Is there an echo round here? 😜:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: https://thewoodhaven2.co.uk/threads/anybody-try-something-like-this-wedge-system-if-you-dont-have-a-tail-vise.12062/

    Record lever cap screw

You're welcome to come and have a play with my Harrison at some point if you'd like (although I'd need a bit of warning as it's quite hard to get to it at the moment with all the clutter  ).

Anybody try something like this wedge system if you don't have a tail vise?

I think tail vices aren't that common over this side of the pond from what I can tell. It looks like a neat idea. I use wedges quite often to hold stuff, a bit like this: but I've got loads of dog holes in my bench so I can usually get away with a small off-cut to make up the gap if...

Morse taper revolving centre in chuck jaws

I did something similar on a couple of the crushgrind ones I made. Like the Prokraft ones, the dimensions are only critical at the bottom so you can open up the top as much as you like.
