• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

There are a quite a range of different DS tapes from the light "art" type to the "stick sh1t to a blanket" carpet tape.
For sticking a template to a workpiece, the former can be too weak and the latter is so strong that is can be difficult to get the template off to use again and then there can be adhesive residue to remove.

Here's an alternative. apply masking/decorators tape to both surfaces, add spots of superglue on the tape on one piece. Spray some activator on the tape of the other part and fix the two parts together.

When you need to part them the masking tape will let go and not leave any residue.

n.b. make sure the super glue/activator only goes on the tape not the parts.

Run out of activator? see my next tip. viewtopic.php?f=20&t=8505

I'm not claiming to be original. I'm typing this whilst listening to the sound track and he is still rabbiting on and only just putting the first piece of tape. Do these youtubers think their viewers a brain dead?

King of Witter at times in't he? Absolutely agree with you re huge tubers. Pain in the proverbial. I dip in and very fast out on most of them. I only persevered with B.C. because several luthiers extolled his virtues. I can see why, but, like you Bob, I think he could say it in one third or one quarter of the time and without views of his tattooed bonce...

That's a useful tip Bob; sounds a bit of a faff but doable and I can see that it would work quite well. I definitely run into problems with my usual ds tape, especially if it's been cramped to the workpiece which sometimes happens so I try an use small squares of the stuff (Icm x 1cm roughly) to stick stuff together; easy enough then to pull both bits apart - Rob

the key is getting really good quality DS tape, I don't like the idea of the fumes from superglue from a health and safety point of view, NEC exhibition tape is the best I've come across yet.

I lasted 5 seconds. At least now the Americans don't have the monopoly on windbags.
