Drinking challenge

Has anyone seen the Axminster video entitled "Drinking challenge" in which they make a tankard with an Arbortech? It's popped up in my Facebook feed a few times recently.

I got a wooden tankard from my wife for Christmas, it's suprising how nice it is to drink out of, plus you feel a bit like a pirate or from a medieval banquet when you use it! It's now my vessel of choice over glass or pewter.

Not sure I would want to drink out of that particular one though.

Yours looks ace Matt. Can you take some closer up pics of the construction and inside?

Yes will do tonight - the quality is really high but I'm not sure how it's constructed because the outside grain doesn't seem to match the rest of the faces which seem to be oak.

How is the handle held on? Is it just glued?

A lot of on line flack generated over that vid, not sure if it's the cleverest thing we've ever done, but the main point was to show the effectiveness of the kit, rather than the finished product. I got hold of it last week in the Skill Centre and it it a bit rufftytuffty - Rob

Yeah I've seen some of it, bit unfair IMO. It was obviously just a demo and not meant to be a finished product.

I'm not keen on the Tankard shape, in wood at least. Traditional Kuksa though can look very nice.

As promised, a few more pictures. It appears to be coopered, no idea if handle is just glued on. Was made in Eastern Europe, Latvia I think.

On a closer inspection and with Matt's recent piccie, I can indeed see a nice bit of coopering going on there. I didn't look at the Axminster link yesterday, but seen it now. I agree, great kit but shame about the demo's end product - a bit ruftytufty as Rob writes

The handle and the handle's stave could be one piece wood.

Very lovely tankard.
