• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Rarely a job I have to do but I have just done (for an elderly lady) a conversion of a bottom sliding/tilt sash into a fanlight style to make getting ventilation easier than lifting.
Although a resounding success i had issue with the quality of the catch and roller restrictors obtained in a rush from Ironmongery Direct.
As a result there are now numerous others that require doing but I'd like to take the hit and miss quality out of the equation.
Do you have any experience of other suppliers please?
Cheers, Andy20250822_164742.jpg

Ironmongery is always a tricky one to get right, you can spend an absolute fortune on hardware and it can still be awful ("From the Anvil", Ahem!) and then find something that's a very good quality for a price that's almost too good to be true.

I find Marches Ironmongery to be very good, and very helpful with queries on the phone as well, which isn't true for many suppliers.

The problem I’ve had with the couple of random fanlight catches I’ve bought is that they were designed for use with a pole and therefore absolutely massive with very strong springs and not really suitable for pulling with a finger. Hoping someone will provide a source for smaller ones that are good as finger pulls.

I'm mindful when buying anything from Iron M D, I have a few boxes of casement fasteners in the shop that have failed, been replaced and then to fail again, so for anything that needs to be reliable in service I also use Marches Ironmongery, as @Trevanion, as well as a local supplier in Norwich.

("From the Anvil", Ahem!)
I do buy some of their door furniture, and only last week had a call back to a loose MPL lever handle I fitted to an Oak front door I had made, after 5 years, they just sent out a replacement FOC.

Assume that you know that place in Anstey Andy?
I assume that it’s still going.
Last time I went I thought it was a bit pricey but at least you can handle the merchandise.

Used to love this shop when it was in the middle of Leicester.
