Mike's mention of glulams for the 'special project' reminded me of this rather spectacular construction.

In the TV programme about this project they were saying that each piece was assembled to within 1mm accuracy which seems pretty impressive to me. They also pre-loaded the construction with concrete blocks during assembly to allow for the tons of earth in the garden that would be installed at a later date.
The TV programme also stated (how accurate, I know not) that Wiehag were the only company able to produce glulams to this size.
