• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

How the spindle moulder ...nearly ...regained its notoriety

And now I will 'fess up to some stupidity around my own spindle moulder on the combi-machine as a suggestion to others to focus...focus....focus.

Towards the end of the day.....hell of a lot of other non-wood related stuff...like mentally-unstable neighbouring farmer and the effect on my wife...but we press on. Decided that a few minutes thicknessing down the homemade ply ring fence would be a useful 10 minute job. Set-up the thicknesser table. Hit the on button, heard a spinning whooshing sound but ear defenders on so not that distinctive. Tried to feed in the ply. Wouldn't go. :eusa-think: Switch off. :eusa-think: Crouch down to see if the feed rollers are turning and switch back on. Same whooshing sound. Rollers not turning. Rats. Don't tell me my machine has developed a fault.

What position is the selector switch in ? Spindle moulder mode. :oops: Where is the cutter block? Just like this...



Luckily nothing touching. Nothing nearby to get drawn in. Lucky. :oops:

Spinning away. All those sharp cutters totally exposed.
 
it's said tiredness kills...

when I start to feel tired I just stop using machines....
take the opertunity to put tools away and tidy up....

take care....
 
True but the thing is that I wasn't tired. Just simply not focussing on the job in hand.

Actually a fair way away. Gave me reassurance then any flying missiles would have bounced off the cast iron !
 
One of those moments when you wonder what could have happened...

If it’s any consolation, I ran my metal lathe backwards the other day, and wondered why it wasn’t cutting. I even changed the carbide tip before realising. No wonder the robots are winning :eusa-whistle:

Yes, same here. It’s easy to ruin a job with a silly mistake just because you’re tired.

They do. It's a great big rotary switch that only supplies power to any one motor at a time. It assumes that the person owning the hand that turns the switch is fully compos mentis !
