• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

I have an index head on my lathe with 1 to 24 stops. Can one of you turning experts explain the logic. For example if I want to create 3 flat surfaces 120 degrees apart is that 1, 8 and 16 pr 1, 9, 17 or some other. I tried drawing a parallel line to my lathe bed on a disc. I was hoping to see a triangle with 60 degree angles.
I probably need to try again marking from the centre vertically.

According to Record the index numbers are 1, 9 and 17.

I think of the index positions like the hours on a clock face, except that there are 24 rather than 12, so each step is 15 degrees. (360 divided by 24 is 15.)

If your starting position is at 12 o'clock, that's the same as position zero. You want to get to 4 o'clock, so move on 4 hours x 2, ie 8 steps. Then another 8 steps to get to 8 o'clock.

It doesn't really matter which is your starting position, you just need to be able to feel the number of steps round that you take.

I agree Andy. I think 24 I need to think of as 0 and 24 then it makes sense.
