• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. Ok, I've got to rip down some seriously old pitch pine and wondering if anyone has successfully upped the blade from a standard 1/2" ?
This is the machine

Ian at Tuff Saws can do me 3 tpi on 1/2" but I was toying with the idea of something a bit wider. Would there be an advantage in this ?

There will be some seriously nice timber in there, love Pitch pine. I’m fairly sure your machine is bigger than my Startrite 352. I’m not at home so can’t check but I think it’s a 3/4” blade I use for deep ripping.
Suggest a skip tooth blade as it will clear the debris away better. Ian
 
I have long followed the old maxim about having the widest possible blade for re-sawing, and I am as certain as I can be that it doesn't really help. I would suggest sticking with what you are comfortable with at the moment, but obviously have a new blade in the machine.

I'd focus more on finding someone to hold the outfeed end of the work, or in making an outfeed table.
 
As Mike has said, you don't need a wider blade for re-sawing. A sharp 1/2" 3tpi blade will do the job and you don't need to go to Tuff saws to get one; I use an Ax DG (diamond ground) blade and can re-saw 250mm+ on my big bandsaw. The biggest issue you'll have with pitch pine is a build up of resin on the blade and wheels which could be a bit of a 'mare to remove - Rob
 
Cellulose thinners is ideal for cleaning up resin very quickly.

As for a blade, I don’t know If he still does them but years ago I had a 2tpi from tuffsaws it chomped it’s way through large sections with ease.
 
I’m a big fan of Ian’s (of course you need to go to tuffsaws!*) skip tooth blades.

*help the little supplier who thinks customer service is important.

On this basis I'll likely stick to the 1/2".
I'd be nice if I could get a 2 tpi in the M42 blade just in case I don't spot a gremlin in there.

The aroma is intense from this timber and when I turned some racksaw rollers it fair made me a bit woosie...
