• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

May I say what a delight it was to spend the afternoon with Gordon last Saturday.
A man with a passion and a story for the whole collection which is worthy of a visit whatever your interests.
I'll let Gordon fill you in...

Nice video, and it looks a lovely little place. Pity it's out of reach from here, although we do have our own museums of rural life to compensate.

That’s a great find Andy thanks for sharing, looks well worth a ride out :eusa-clap:

I’m sure if I mention 8 acres of beautifully landscaped ornamental gardens, a quality plant centre and garden shop, gallery, gift shop and tea shop to the good lady wife she’d be up for a visit, obviously finding there’s a tool museum when we arrive will just be an added bonus

Cheers.

Yes Mike and I should make more time to visit them if this is anything to go by.

Thanks Doug, yes, it has it all really and I was lucky as my other half had her Granddaughter along for the ride. Although most areas are free access the main gardens are £9.50 each but it was money well spent for a guilt free afternoon of tools n chat. To cap it off we went to Brill Mill for the sunset and scored even more Brownie points :eusa-whistle:

I only wish that Art In Action was still happening which is how I found this in the first instance...

Very much this. Art in Action was a highlight of the year, and directly responsible for my own interest in woodworking after my first visit 25 years ago.

Same here, but the tea shop is unquestionably the most important bit. No tea shop, no go - Rob

Just got round to watching the video and looking at the pictures on a big screen.

It's so nice to see that you have found the ideal place to visit and that the museum has found its ideal visitor!
I have just one question...

...Was the gift shop up to your expectations?

Yes Pete, sounds like you found Art in Action way before us even though we had been told about it.

Sadly it was the very last one when we visited.

Sometimes things just turn out so right on the day, although I now realise I should have got there early enough to help open up.... :eusa-drool:
Indeed Andy, the gift shop has the right stock in the shape of some surplus old tools, including a couple I intended purchasing but totally forgot about in my attempt to get out before he locked up for the night.. :eusa-doh:

Just bringing this to the top to say whilst visiting the rural museum this afternoon with friends we were given the very sad new that Gordon Dempster had passed away the day before.
I knew that he had been quite ill and volunteers had taken on the role of curating the museum in his absence.
A most kind and knowledgeable man who had a wonderful way of explaining what everything was.
RIP Mr Dempster

Didn't realise that this was a posting originally from 2022. Had a look at the photos and then tried to view the video on YouTube but got a 'this video is private' message over the screen...

Sorry to hear of his passing.

Apologies I changed the link last night to the one you clicked on but obviously there is some sort of glitch.
I've now inserted a new link and edited the title.

Cheers Andy
