my version of a cutter bench

Not posted since my intro a long time ago so here goes

I needed a small entrance way bench and after spotting Fritz Hansen's Cutter bench , I decided that was a look I was going for but not so long as it had to fit in a specific place.
With a week off , this was going to be the time , but my lack of getting around to ordering stock I looked for an alternative source
After spotting an "Oak" solid coffee table on gumtree for not a lot , this would be my source
Not a lot of oak in it , but it was solid (Sipo? I think , not as dense feeling as Sapele but its potluck)

I drew up a model in CAD and exported it to my Phone to get an augmented reality shot to see how it would work before proceeding.

Started with the top , routing out as close as I dared to the lines and finishing with hand tools, then the legs were mitred.

A dry fit assembly placed where the AR model had been to check reality matched what the phone projected.

Glued and reinforced with a single maple spline on the top and dual splines on the bottom , finished in a hard wax oil.

Nor had I until I found one in the wild , not knowing what it was called until months later I spot it on a youtube video where it was attributed.
its comfy enough for the purpose of putting on or taking off of shoes and boots

You sometimes see a modern version of this in sauna / spa changing rooms in the Netherlands. I had forgotten about that design until this thread.

I misread that as clutter bench and thought I’ve got one of those

There's something amiss with the images. I can only see the first three, and they're not enlarge-able.

The wood in the small image I can see looks like meranti.

There is going to be a terrific strain on those mitres. I can't think of any version of a mitre joint which would be strong enough, unless there was another member somewhere to provide racking resistance.

I must confess I was not that happy with mitres either but that was what was in the original design's appearance.
so for each mitre there is a hidden floating tenon as well as the spline , and it holds my (considerable) weight without any movement/racking/deflection at all.
