• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Just been to the greenhouse to pick a few more tomatoes, then to the cabbage patch for some swiss chard for tonights dinner (salmon steaks). The greenhouse (unheated) is still churning out toms, green peppers and basil, though it looks like being damn cold tonight so I've closed the doors for the first time since spring.

Went for a hill-top walk with Isabelle and her son Jean-Baptiste this afternoon, only 8km as the NE wind was very cold. Lovely in the sun though. Autummn colours starting to show here and there. Best of the colour is usually around 10th nov.
 
Had the first frost here this morning, I saw the neighbour scraping his windscreen so I made another cuppa & waited for the sun to oblige, I’d only got to go to the timber merchants so wasn’t in a rush.

The colours in the garden at the minute are glorious though 5 hours on Sunday at the allotment was enough to make me head for a hot bath when I got home, still I managed to get the winter onions in so that’s the last crop of the year planted

Must be time to change my wheels to winter ones, then we won’t get any snow!

Funny year here with the variable weather we’ve had. Apple crop was useless, some trees have shed all their leaves with others going strong.
My lovely Acer has been hit with Verticillium Wilt so that will have to be chopped down [emoji53]

You surprise me with the apples Rod, this year has been one of the best for the fruit from our trees, we even managed to get 5 peaches the first time that tree has fruited since I planted it.

Sad about you’re Acer, such beautiful trees they are a favourite of mine, our Azalea has looked sick most of this year I’m hoping it's just down to how wet & cold it’s been. Azaleas we’re a favourite of my dad so I planted this one to mark his passing, with a little luck it will come back strongly next year.
 
We had a small apple crop this year too. We have 5 different types which fruit at different times and they all produced a lot less then usual. Blackcurrants on the other hand have done very well.
We still have cherry toms in the GH Alongwith lettuces, basil, parsley and coriander. Leeks are fattening too.
 
I’ve had a few things die off this year in various parts of the garden. Some Kerria Japonica ( which grows like a weed here), and a Spanish Broom.
A couple of hydrangeas that grow in pots really struggled and a Pieris I’ve had for 2 or 3 yrs is not looking good.

The Wilt is a soil born disease with no known cure except to leave it empty for 15yrs or to plant a resistant type of tree. I had a “Family” Apple tree there for about 30yrs which died of canker - perhaps that was Wilt too?
