• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

So what would these be then???

Contrary to my inquisitive nature I have allowed this odd little ceiling mounted affair in our cellar cinema room to go unexplored since we bought this house 6 years ago. Today I decided enough was enough and to take a look.

I recall a vague conversation with the original owner around some kind of ventilation system and have seen the vents (pictured below) but never really got into the workings of it.

These are the ceiling vents that appear to be connected to it...

There's this little monkey hidden in the control cupboard, but doesn't appear to have any mower to it right now, so that needs looking at…

It goes through the ceiling into a cupboard above in the utility…

Then vents in/out through this air brick…

So, what might these buggers be then???

I'm guessing some kind of system to keep fresh air flowing in/out of the cellar to stop damp and stale smells, but can anyone (Mike ;) ) shed any more light?

Cheers
Mark

Okay, a bit of googling seems to take me to vent-axia, which is where Mike said he gets his heat recovery systems etc. So I guess my next challenge is to find out exactly what model/type this is, and whether it's simply a vent or HR system. Either way I would like to bring it back to life, but I guess it also gives me some options for replacement with an HR system if that's the way we wanted to go?!

A worthwhile little distraction from more important things I really need to be doing…! :)

Cheers
Mark

A heat recovery system will need 4 ports as part of two isolated air circuits. a ventilation only system needs two ports that will be connected to one another.

Easiest thing would be to connect up some power and play with some smoke canisters and see what goes where.
