• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

I bought this some time ago, it’s accurate and the markings are clear, but I can’t get on with it. I find it (or rather me) doesn’t register against the wood when I scribe 90 degrees because of the 45 degree face. Entirely down to my poor handling.
Is it just me who is cack handed with this shaped square?
I’d offer it ftagh but I think postage would be more than the price of a new one.

I have one of these too. It works fine, but is a bit light, and so it is easy to mis-register and I can quite see you might not get on with it. I also have Starrett combi squares in small and large and these are an order of magnitude better as they are heavier and very rigid. Hence the one you showed is rarely used.
 
I have a couple of solid Starrett engineers squares and also have the one you show which I use regularly without any issues. It is a little different but I've just got used to it. It would be useful to someone as I can't see it being too expensive to send via Hermes otherwise to a local men shed maybe.

Just found a new one on ebay for £7 so maybe you're right about postage.

I have a number of alternatives so it’s not a problem.
 
I have the Starrett square. It’s not very pleasant to hold with its almost-but-not-quite-sharp edges, so I use anything else in preference. A mini 10cm x 5cm Shinwa square if I can get away with it because it feels nice in the hand.
 
The orange Bacho ones are very good, they need some sharp edges cleaning up but they are very accurate and cheap.
