• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Tracy Tools HSS drill bits?

Yes I have many sets simply because they were part of a job lot at a Pugh's auction many years ago. Therein lies the rub..."many years ago'". Mine are very good but in the intervening years?? Have they changed supplier etc ? Certainly seems possible as the ones you link to seem a lot shinier.

The metal lid/spring mechanism that opens up the drills when you open the lid is a weak point.

dont know about the drills as I only buy cobalt /HSS drills now
but the taps n dies I bought years ago are still GOOD.....

Mmmmm...looking in more detail at those, I can't help but feel that in the intervening years,C-cubed has got stuck in.

I'd take a punt on the box for £8 but not any others.

I've not had a problem with UKDrills stuff. Dormer etc. of course are better but n X the price.

I bought a 47/64" 2MT (3/4", from a woodworker's point of view) for not much over a fiver, it's worth checking out the imperial MT stuff as they're dropping the range. Amongst others I have the two 0.1mm sets as well. On occasion it's actually cheaper on ebay.

Thanks all for the replies. As it turned out yesterday, we popped into Lidl for some breakfast pastries and walked out with a 1-10mm cobalt-coated hss set of drills in 0.5 increments for £8.50. My guess is they're the sort of thing I was hoping to avoid, but we'll see how they hold an edge/ perform once resharpened. I'm also going to buy one of the Tracy sets (not sure which one) to compare with, once I need other stuff from them to justify the postage cost.

On a side note - we have a Waitrose in town, how is it that their bakery stuff isn't half as good as Lidl's for more than twice the price?! Their baguettes are consistently baked at the ends but white and doughy in the middle, and their almond croissants look like someone stood on them. Tesco is much better, and Lidl far better again. Plus, Lidl sell drill bits, tho their plasma cutter seems to have sold out this week in our local. :eusa-think:

Revisiting this and I reckon that the set for £8 is definitely worthwhile having a punt.

Waitrose bread gives my gut an ache. Sainsbury's stuff on the other hand is perfect for my gut flora. Mind you, the morello cherry tart from Waitrose is quite tasty.

Try the Waitrose Sicilian Lemon Marmalade.
That sounds good stuff. SWIMBO gets through a pot of the organic, thick cut WR orange marmalade a week - Rob

I think that I might have Yorkshire genes, every time I try Waitrose, l’m constantly thinking “How much!”.

Looking forward to the hot cross buns I pricked up in Aldi yesterday. Who would have thought, in September.
Thanks for the heads up Bob
